Several residents who were former mem- bers of the Hensall United Churchwomen's Friendship Circle were cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER VEGETABLES ARE JUST SO VERSATILE AND GREAT TO EXPERIMENT WITH. JUST RECENTLY I MADE THE FOLLOWING RECIPE AS A TRY OUT WITH GOOD FRIENDS. SINCE, 1 HAVE MADE IT SEVERAL TIMES AND 1 ENJOY THE COMBINATION OF FLAVORS. MY HUSBAND AND 1 PREFER SWEET POTATOES (YAMS) OVER WHITE POTATOES, MAINLY BECAUSE THEY ARE BETTER FOR YOU AND QUITE FLAVORFUL. I'VE BAKED THEM, ONCE THEY ARE PEELED AND SLICED INTO 1 1/2 INCH SLICES, BY DIPPING THEM INTO EGG WHITE MIXED WITH GARLIC POWDER AND THEN ROLLED IN CRUSHED CORNFLAKES, PARMESAN GRATED CHEESE AND SPICES (PARSLEY, GARLIC POWDER, THYME). THE FOLLOWING RECIPE IS ANOTHER TWIST WITH SWEET POTATOES! SWEET POTATOES AND GREEN BEANS 3 sweet potatoes (peeled and julienned) 2 cups french style frozen green beans or fresh green beans I Tbsp olive oil 2 Tbsp maple syrup FOR THE Saute the sweet potato in the olive oil till tender crisp, add green beans and cook till tender. Drizzle with maple syrup and serve up with a favorite bbq'd meat! Easy and great tasting. Experiment with spices like thyme, basil or rosemary to change up the flavor if you like. Capsule Comments by Ernie Miatello Those persons with Parkinson's disease take medications to control symptoms. Sometimes these medications may not be working as well and this can be fixed by a simple change in the time the drug is taken. An example is taking the first dose of the day earlier while still in bed to allow for greater mobility an hour later. The cure for diabetes will occur during the next 20 years. Cost of treating diabetes over a lifetime is over $200,000 per person for insulin, syringes and blood glucose testing supplies. The extra costs of more hospitalization and doctor visits push that number even higher. If your teeth hurt when exposed to cold, heat, acidic foods or brushing, you might want to try a desensitizing toothpaste, like Sensodyne. These toothpastes contain compounds that can reduce the discomfort. Check with your dentist first to be sure there is no underlying dental problem, If you have a bad reaction to a drug, share this information with your pharmacist as well as your doctor. This information will be recorded on your permanent prescription record in the pharmacy and can prevent a similar reaction in the future.
