At 7 a.m Emily Walraven was the first swimmer in the water followed by the other team members to begin the first of many 25 metre laps. By 9 a.m, only two hours later, 19 swimmers had completed a total of 2043 laps and raised $1,391 to support swimming in Huron County. From the youngest swimmers to the senior swimmers there was a steady churning of the water as swimmers worked their way back and forth for two hours while parents counted laps and called out encourag- ing words. The younger swimmers used a variety of strokes and techniques. Words of encourage- ment helped but finally the swimmers had to put out effort and they certainly proved their stuff. Young Melissa Riley swam three laps and Rachel Vanneste finished six. Ethan Pettapiece took a little time to get the feel of it at the beginning but made up for it later by keeping a steady pace for 30 laps.
