More than 35 pieces were included in the show.The pieces were selcted from the work of about 25 participants in a February workshop, which grew out of a desire to use the stained glass removed from the church. Church glass, antique glass, broken dishes and mirrors were combined to create magnificent pieces. (photo/submitted) Hurondale WI hold annual meeting Submitted by Bev Campbell EXETER - Twelve mem- bers of Hurondale WI met at the Burkley Restaurant for supper on Wed., April 28 as a start to their annu- al meeting. Following a very lively and enjoyable supper the group proceed- ed to the home of Marilyn PYrn. T h e meeting was called to order by President Marion Frayne with the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. Roll call took the form of all members paying their yearly dues. A report of the board meeting was given by Fern Dougall with mention of the London area conven- tion being held Oct. 7. The convention is being held in Holmesville and plans are well underway. The District Annual will be on May 20 in Zurich with reg- istration at 6 p.m. The District picnic is July 6 and Crediton WI are the hosts with potluck at 12:30 p.m. There will be a farmers' market and all members are urged to participate with an article. A donation was made to the Children's Aid Society camp fund as well as annual donations to the WI projects which include the Erland Lee Museum, the Adelaide Hoodless Homestead, Women Feed the World and the FWIO Headquarters Fund. The meeting took a break at this time to exchange Secret Pal gifts and receive a new name for the coming year. This is always a fun time for everyone. The annual meeting part of the evening took place with Pym announcing vol- unteer hours as being 1032. All yearly reports were given by the appro- priate officers. The nomi- nations for the coming year were given and past president Marian Dougall proceeded with the instal- lation of officers. The business portion being concluded, June Stewart had the group take part in a memory contest. Lorraine Alexander gave a humourous reading and Marian Dougall read a story before all adjourned for a social time. The next meeting in May will be a mystery tour. Gordon Hill welcomed everyone and gave the announcements. Alysha and Kristen Dowson lit the Christ candle. Joe Laurie led in the opening prayer followed by the Children's Story. The choir favoured everyone with a number, He Touched Me. Steve Keys read the Scripture readings and Jean Bennett introduced the guest speaker David Mayberry . His message was on `Death Defying Acts'. Gordon Hill ended with the commis- sioning and benediction. Members congregated in the Sunday school room for refreshments and a social time. Foodgrains Bank Committee Members for 2004 are Gordon Hill, Joe Laurie, John Dowson, Scott Consitt, Art and Jean Bennett, Jack Eckel, Steve Keys and Ron Keys. Varna UCW meet this Thurs., May 6 at the Varna Church at 8 p.m. Please bring a piece of handiwork from your mother or grandmother. For roll call bring an item for the Camp Menesetung Wish List. Sun., May 9 will be Christian Family Sunday in Varna. Sun., May 16 there will be no service in Varna or Goshen. This is the Five Alive Conference Sunday in Bayfield United Church at 11 a.m. The worship is led by the Teen Challenge Outreach Team. Come on out and hear the personal sto- ries of these young men. Special music by the Five Alive Choir and Childrens Choir. All the offering from the service will be dedicated to the Teen Challenge Farm. Sat., May 22 there were will be a stone - picking bee for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank weather permitting starting at 10 a.m. There will be a hotdog BBQ lunch to follow so bring your own lawn chairs. There will be an Ecumenical Worship and Dedication Service for the Bluewater Municipality Recreation Facility in Zurich at 12:30 p.m. Mon., June 7 is Camp Menesetung Campsite Experience at 9 a.m. On June 10 Huron Perth Division World Outreach have arranged a 'Face to Face' meeting with a young gentleman from Tanzania. Mr. Bita will be the guest in this area June 10 and the day's agenda will focus on his interest in agriculture and a potluck supper at 6 p.m. at the Brucefield Church. There will be a Five Alive Worship at 7:30 p.m. A social time to follow. Sun., June 13 is Confirmation Sunday. Wed., June 16 is the Varna Church annual Pork BBQ. Top scores from shuffleboard on April 21 were Marg Hayter 262, Elmer Hayter 248, Ruth Johnston 247 and Norene Hayter 222. The Sesquicentennial Meeting for Varna was held on Thursday evening. Varna is celebrating 150 years on Fri., July 30, Sat., July 31 and August 1. Mark your calendars for this important event and tell other family and former resi- dents.
