It was a delicious meal. Also the sports and leisure show held in the arena all weekend was interesting to see and had lots of nice displays from various businesses. This event was sponsored by the Lions Club. St. Peter's Catholic Women's League at St. Joseph will be having a potluck supper in their parish hall on Tuesday, May 4 beginning at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Membership dues of $15 will be collected after mass on May 1 and 2. The annual March for Life will take place in Ottawa on May 13. A bus will be going from this area; cost is $25 for adults and $15 for students. Call Susan at 236-7296 or Bella 236-4178 for more information. Also Catholic education week will be held at St. Boniface School from May 2to7. Congratulations Congratulations to Kerri Gingerich and Barry Willert on the arrival of their boy, Ryan James Harold who was born on April 17. A surprise 50th birthday supper was held for Melissa NEWS Francis of Lucan last Saturday at Eddington's in Exeter with 15 relatives attending. Following sup- per there was a get- together at the Sweeney's in Zurich. The school play held three nights at St. Boniface School last week was a great success. The gym was full for all the performances. The theme was 'Into the Woods.' The children did a great job and thanks to the hard work and many hours of the directors: Harriet VanderBurgt, Dianne Miller and Teresa Van Raay. Tanya Bedard and Jody LaPorte recently enjoyed spending 10 days on a trip to Budapest (Hungary) where they visited with her sister, Tara Bedard. They also travelled to Rumania and Transylvania. The Agricultural Society will be having their fair board meeting at the new Blue Water Community Centre in Zurich this Thurs., April 28 at 8 p.m. All members are asked to attend and help plan for the 140th anniversary din- ner to be held on Sat., May 8; social hour is at 5:30 p.m. and supper is at 6:30 p.m., followed by an evening of entertainment. Tickets are $15 a person, available from Margaret Deichert, Paul Klopp, J & L Variety and Erb's Country Kitchen. Several from the Zurich area enjoyed the Stars On Ice skating show at the John Labatt Centre in London on Sun., April 25. It was great seeing so many famous skaters. Heather, Heidi and Donna Klopp along with Carmel Sweeney enjoyed supper at the home of Linda Earle and family before the show. Starting Wed., May 5, the Diners will be having their weekly meals at the new Blue Water Community Centre. Also Betty Kirk will do the exercise class there from 10 to 11 a.m. Cost is $2 per class. Everyone is wel- come to come out and exercise. A reminder that the ladies auxiliary is having their meeting at the Blue Water Rest Home on Tues., May 4 at 6:30 p.m. Membership dues are $2 and anyone is most wel- come to join. The Monday night ladies bowling league finished for the season on April 26 at the Town and Country Lanes in Zurich. Awards night is May 10 in Exeter. Thank you to the execu- tive and new owners Larry and Barb Robinson for their help and support making it a fun season. Grade 8 student Lauren Haberer of Zurich Public School returned home recently from Toronto where she was a page at Queen's Park from March 22 to April 16. She found it to be very interesting and a great experience. She is the daughter of Michelle and Steve Haberer. The Blue Water Zurich Skating Club awards ban- quet is at the Blue Water Community Centre on Sun., May 2 at 4:30 p.m. with a family potluck sup- per. Call president Mary Becker for more informa- tion. The St. Boniface CWL meeting was held on April 20 with 22 members pre- sent following mass for vocations by Father John. Guest speaker was Ivan Bedard on behalf of the new Blue Water Community Centre Development Committee. He gave a very interesting talk on the new communi- ty centre. He also said more fundraising events are being planned, such as the grand opening on June 5 with Joe Overholt enter- taining, and a dance by the Rec League on August 7. Don Beauchamp is president of this commit- tee. The CWL made a dona- tion to the arena building fund. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the regular church service on Sunday morning. A new Introit was sung, people shook hands, Rev. Carter gave greetings and the announce- ments and also led in the call to worship, prayer of approach and affirmation of faith in unison. Zachary Kadey lit the Christ candle and Rev. Carter told the boys a story about love. The choir sang It Will Never Lose Its Power accompanied by organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Psalm 30 was read responsively. Rev. Carter read John 21:1-19 and the title of her sermon was Do You Love Me? Helen Kadey and Miriam Veldman received the offer- ing. Everyone read the commissioning responsively. Rev. Carter pronounced the benediction. Everyone sang May the God of Hope Go With Us. Announcements The Outreach Committee would like to express a thank you to all who supported the Bluefields School Project in Nicaragua last Sunday. With your support $65 was raised for this project. May 16: Community of Churches Annual Conference Sunday Service with guest speaker Alan Slater, a retired farmer from the St. Marys area who spent time in Iraq as a Christian peacekeeper. The service will be held at Thames Road Elimville UC with orchestra and singsong beginning at 10:30 a.m. and wor- ship service at 11 a.m. Special music by joint choir. This service is coordinated by Centralia, Zion West, Kirkton, Woodham, Hibbert and Thames Road Elimville United Churches. Please note Choir practices will be held April 25, May 2 and May 9 at Thames Road Elimville UC from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Money from the Lenten Calendars for M&S Fund is due now. Personals Congratulations to Brian and Carisa Richardson on the birth of their daughter, Kinsley Carisa on Saturday morning. Congratulations also to Don and Janis Richardson, grandparents and to great-grandparents Ken and Dorothy Duncan. Get -well wishes are extended to Marion Cann who was a patient in SH Hospital recently. Cann returned home on Tuesday. The new officers for the 2004-05 term were elected: NG -Jean Hodgert; VG -Phyllis Parsons; Secretary -Gloria McFalls; Financial Secretary -Barb Tiedeman; Treasurer -Mavis Atthill. Reminder of Past Grands on April 29, 8 p.m. at Sis. Gloria's to discuss the dessert euchre on May 12. Soudant if you want to join the CWL at a cost of $15. Patti Hunt read the min- utes of the last meeting and Bella Soudant read a newsletter from Right to Life. Thirteen women and Father John attended the fun night and supper in Goderich on April 19. Cecilia Farwell sent out three get -well cards, six sympathy cards and arranged drivers for Meals on Wheels each month. President Joan Regier and Debbie Pennings attended the Convention in Woodstock on April 26 and 27 with Bella Soudant and Father John attending the banquet on Tuesday. Julie Becker will be the ticket convener for the Bean Festival quilt. The door prize was won by Therese Stark. The next meeting is May 18 at 8 p.m. with Rose Marie Regier and Mary Lou Denomme's group in charge. The Knights of Columbus are planning their deli- cious pancake breakfast for Mother's Day Sunday, May 9 after the 9 a.m. mass.
