Clandeboye WI installs officers

GRANTON CORRESPONDENT
GRANTON - The annual beef supper sponsored by
Lucan United Church on Thursday evening, April 15 at
the Lucan Community Centre was very successful with
700 tickets sold out in advance.
A number of people from Granton area attended the
Soup and Sandwich lunch hosted by the
Hillcrest Rebekah Lodge, in St. Marys at
the Presbyterian Church at noon on Fri.,
April 16.
UCW
The Granton -Wesley UCW general meeting was held
at the church on Tuesday evening, April 13 commencing
with refreshments served by Unit 4. President Margaret
Bryan opened with a reading 'The Monday After' and
Unit 4 President Marilyn Humphrey read 'Everything I
learned, I learned in Kindergarten' and Bettie Dann
read a poem `Coming of Spring.'
Humphrey introduced the guest speaker Ryan
Nicholson from Nicholson's flowers in Lucan who spoke
on everything from soil preparation to hanging baskets.
Bryan continued the meeting and thanked everyone
for their help over the past several months. She also told
the group about the Presbyterial meeting which she and
Carolyne Walden had attended. The topic was Medical
Electives Overseas. Granton will host the Presbyterial in
November.
Upcoming events were discussed, including a commu-
nity shower for Lisa Humphrey on May 11. The various
committees gave their reports and the meeting was
closed with the benediction.
Granton -Wesley UCW Unit 2 met at the church on
Thursday evening, April 1. President Marion Gatt
chaired the meeting and gave a meditation on `Count
GRANTO
Your Blessings.' Plans were also made for a card work-
shop to be held at the church on Sat., May 1. Terry
Herbert served refreshments.
Granton -Wesley United
At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., April
18, Lay Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the message
`Believing is Seeing - or Not.' Dylan Jones lit the Christ
Candle. The lessons were from Revelations 1 and John
20.
An update from Ethiopia was prepared
by John and Irene Richardson about send-
ing the school supplies and the problems encountered,
also the e-mail received by the school director.
The youth group met at the church on Sunday evening.
On Sun., April 18, the church service at St. Paul's,
Kirkton was withdrawn because of the Great Easter
Deanery service which was held at St. Paul's Anglican
Church M Stratford.
Clandeboye WI
Clandeboye Women's Institute met at the home of
Marion Hodgson on Wednesday afternoon, April 14
when the roll call was answered with a sign of spring
and paying of fees. President Betty McIntyre chaired the
meeting when considerable year-end business was dis-
cussed. Arrangements were also made for the May
meeting and the spring dessert euchre on April 20.
Annual committee reports were given.
The officers for 2004-05 were installed by Muriel
Lewis as follows: Past -President and District Director
Barbara Carter, President Betty McIntyre, Secretary
Gladys Cunningham, Vice -President Carolyn Hardy,
Treasurer and P.R.O. Irene Lynn, History Curator Betty
Coughlin, R.O.S.E. (Rural Ontario Sharing Education) co-
ordinator Carolyn Hardy. Refreshments were served by
Gladys Cunningham, Ruth Hill and hostess Marion.

EXETER - Recently, Beta Alpha Master Chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Ada Dinney.
President Maida Gaiser conducted the business.
Donations were made to the Penmanship Special at the
Kirkton Fall Fair and to the Exeter Agriculture Society
Fall Fair. Pat Fletcher reported that she had e-mailed
the Nova Scotia Xi Pi Sorority Chapter in Sydney,
answering their request to hear from other chapters
regarding their involvement in Daffodil Day. The plans
for Founder's Day were discussed. Co -hostess Lynda
Deelstra then led us in playing progressive crokinole,
`Guess Who You Are', and a quiz. The evening con-
cluded with a lovely lunch.
The next meeting was at the home of Marian Rider
with Pat Patterson as hostess. Final plans for Daffodil
Day were made. Information sheets were distributed
including e-mail listing of members. Everyone received
a ribbon for their sorority pins. Election of officers was
held. The evening ended with a successful silent auc-
tion followed by refreshments.
