Annual Centralia church yard and bake sale May 15

CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA - Easter Sunday, though cold, was a
warm celebration at Centralia United Church on Sun.,
April 11. Rev. Ray Hagerman welcome everyone and
their family and friends to this special worship and lit
the Christ Candle. Hymns included Christ the Lord Is
Risen Today and Thine Is the Glory. Rev. Hagerman
announced that some of the Easter lilies had been
placed in memory of the Hepburn Family by
Jean Palmer. Others were placed by the
Wilhelm and Hicks families.
Scripture lesson was 1 Corinthians 15:1-20a. The
Gospel reading was John 20:1-18.
The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was celebrated as
well. Rev. Hagerman wished everyone a very happy
Easter. Marjorie Johns and the choir led in the exit
hymn, He Is Risen.
On Sun., April 18, Rev. Hagerman welcomed the
members of the congregation at Centralia United
Church to worship on the first Sunday after Easter. The
Introit was He Lives. Scripture lessons were Psalm 23
and Act 8: 5-12. The Gospel Lesson was John 10: 11-18.
Rev. Hagerman's message to everyone was 'The
Ministry of Caring'. There were many announcements.
Thanks to the many people who contributed in so many
ways to the annual pork supper. Everyone enjoyed the
food and fellowship.
In your prayers please remember Ellen Graham,
Laura Hern, Lorne Johns, Bonnie Dawson, Barbara and
Earl French, and Nancy Brock.
The Official Board will meet on Wed., April 21, at 8
p.m. at Zion West to discuss the report from the Needs
Assessment Committee.
There are several upcoming events to mark on your
calendars for May. On Sun., May 2, Old Fellows Lodge
members will attend worship at Centralia United
Church.
Mothers' Day will be celebrated with family day wor-
ship on Sim., May 9. All men are invited to participate in
a special choir that day. If there are any requests for
baptism, contact Rev. Hagerman soon.
The UCW is organizing the annual church yard and
bake sale on Sat., May 15 at Centralia United Church.
Donations of household items, sports equipment, toys,
books, etc. would be appreciated by Thurs., May 13.
There will also be a bake table, and muffins and cook-
ies would be welcomed for the refreshment table. Any
volunteers to provide assistance would be welcomed.
Conference Sunday will be Sun., May 16. A combined
worship service will be held at Thames Road-Elimville
United Church. On Sun., May 30, worship for Zion West
and Centralia United Churches will be combined at
Centralia at 10:15 a.m. A special meeting will be held
following worship to act on the report from the Needs
Assessment Committee.
Centralia UCW
At a recent meeting, Audrey McFalls conducted the
business. Correspondence was read, including an invita-
tion from Thames Road-Elimville UCW for April 13.
Plans were discussed for the upcoming annual garage
and bake sale which will be held on Sat., May 15.
Donna Smith opened the program with a welcome and
a spring poem. June Essery read the scripture from
Luke 24: 44-46, 48, and 50-53 about the Ascension.
Faye Skinner led the group in prayer. Everyone joined
in the hymn, In the Garden. Donna
Smith introduced the guest speaker,
Marjorie Johns. Johns related to the
group her experiences during her trip to Japan and
shared her photographs. Essery thanked Johns for her
very interesting presentation. Lunch was served by
Marion Abbott, Iva Blair, and Audrey McFalls.
Community Euchre Results
Euchre continued on Monday afternoons during
March in Crediton and Centralia.
On March 8 at the Malibu Restaurant, high score win-
ners were Edith Eaton and Herb Piper, while Shirley
Kirk and Bob Latta were the lone hand winners.
Howard Dolan won the hidden score. Helen McDonald
and Fred Cook were high score winners on March 22,
and Bob Latta was the hidden score winner. Marilyn
Dixon and Herb Piper won the lone hands.
In Crediton, euchre was held at Jed's Country
Restaurant on March 15 and March 22. High score win-
ners on March 15 were Kathy Jeffrey and Herb Piper,
and Gert Eagleson and Betty Coates were the low score
winners. Winners of the lone hands were Bernice
Squires and Doris Pfaff.
On March 29, Helen MacDonald and Kathy Jeffrey

POLICE BRIEFS
LUCAN — Middlesex OPP responded to mischief
reports in Lucan over the weekend. A window on a
building located on Market Street was broken by
unknown culprits April 16 and a vehicle was damaged
at the Lucan Community Centre on Main Street.
