SHDHS holding Relay for Life
By Jesiqua Rapley
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES -ADVOCATE
EXETER — On May 28-29, South Huron District High
School will be holding its first Relay for Life, a fundraiser
for the Canadian Cancer Society.
In the relay, teams, preferably of 10, get together for a
good time. It is an overnight event that runs from 7
p.m. to 7 a.m.
Teams can be made up of students,
staff members from the school, par-
ents, community members and busi-
nesses. Anyone interested in being
part of the event can pick up a regis-
tration form in Exeter from Hansen's
Your Independent Grocer, Town Hall,
the Exeter Branch Library, Country
Trenditions and the school.
They can also be picked up in Grand
and The Lakeshore Advance office.
Cancer survivors from the area are invited to come
and walk the first lap of the relay — the Survivors'
Victory lap — as a way to celebrate their courage in the
fight against cancer.
During the relay, teams need to have at least one
member of their team walking, running or strolling
around the track at all times. Each team is also respon-
sible for coming up with a way to raise funds before-
hand.
As part of the event, there is also a special luminary
ceremony at sunset when candles are placed in special
bags and lit in honour of a the loved one. These lumi-
naries can be bought at various locations around Exeter
on weekends from the relay organizers for $5 a piece.
Throughout the evening there will be games and
entertainment for everybody.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and take part in
the event, buy a luminary and cheer on the survivors in
the victory lap.
All money raised goes to the Canadian
Cancer Society and is spent on cancer
research, fundraising, community services
and administration. When the event ran in
2001-2002, three schools participated and
raised an approximate total of $57,000.
Now in 2003-2004, 40 schools have done
the relay and so far have raised $45,500!
This is a completely non-smoking event.
This community/school event is run by students, lead
by senior students Shannon Baer and Meaghan Spence.
Anyone wishing to get involved with the relay can call
SHDHS and talk to Jean at 235-0880, or e-mail one of
our organizers at southhuronrelay@hotmail.com.
Everyone is also encouraged to check out our Web site

Plan 5-3-647 Executive Rancher From its brick trim to its custom-built bookcases, this sprawling rancher is full of design details sure to
please the discriminating home buyer. A concrete walkway leads to the wide covered front porch where a single door flanked by a window
opens to an airy foyer with a 16 -foot -high ceiling. A display shelf in the foyer highlights a painting or a piece of sculpture. To the left, the
formal dining room with its coffered ceiling gives a hint of the luxurious touches found throughout this three-bedroom executive home. A
practical layout places the bedrooms to one side of the plan, while the main living and entertaining areas are on the other. From the foyer,
guests enter a spacious great room that feels even bigger thanks to an 11 -foot -high ceiling. On each side of the gas fireplace, custom
cabinetry provides storage for books and entertainment equipment. French doors open to a large covered patio. The adjoining kitchen
provides another expansive area for family and guests to gather. Here, an angled counter with a circular, raised eating bar at one end,
functions both as a working surface and a serving/eating area. The adjoining kitchen nook is actually larger than the formal dining room and
provides plenty of space to hold a big, harvest table. A corner pantry in the kitchen is a true walk-in cupboard, with a full-size door and
interior lighting. A laundry room, utility room and powder room complete this side of the floor plan. There are three bedrooms in the sleeping
wing, just to the right of the foyer. The master suite takes center stage, boasting french doors that open to a private patio, a large walk-in
closet and a four -piece en suite bathroom. Both secondary bedrooms are spacious. One, at the front of the house, has a lovely bayed
window and might well be used as a home office. An oversized garage offers extra room
for storage, or for a work bench. A door from the garage to the laundry room provides
easy access to the kitchen. This home measures 66 feet, 6 inches wide by 67 feet, 8
inches deep and has 2,285 square feet of living space. Plans for design H5-3-647 are
available for $576 (set of 5), $661(set of 8) and $715 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents
add 7.5% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $20.00 for Priority charge within B.C. or $40.00
outside of B.C. Please add 7% G.S.T. or 15% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan
price and Priority charges. The new 36th Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing
over 300 plans is available for $13.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling). Make all
cheques and money orders payable to "Home Plan of the Week" and mail to: HOME PLAN
