SH Exeter Hawks versus Tavistock Braves rematch
OFSAA
curling
SUDBURY — The
OFSAA curling champi-
onships were held in
Sudbury from March 23
to 27 with 20 boys teams
and 20 girls teams com-
peting.
The South Huron Boys
team consisting of Dan
Shapton, Dave
Desjardine, Adam
Thomson and Jeff Boyes
represented our commu-
nity well.
They curled against
four other teams, Notre
Dame S.S. from
Brampton; St. Charles
College from Sudbury;
Sutton District H.S. from
Sutton and Sir Robert
Borden H.S. from Ottawa.
South Huron had one
win, one loss and two
other losses which were
very close games.
In the games against
Sutton District and Sir
Robert Borden they were
tied coming home with-
out the hammer.
The game rested on the
opponents last rock.
South Huron were sitting
shot and they had to
make the shot to win the
game. And they did.
But the team said it was
an experience competing
at that level.
The team is thankful
they had the opportunity
to represent South Huron
District High School espe-
cially when this is their
last year they will be
curling together at the
high school level.
The boys curling team
would like to thank the
community for all their
support and generous
donations to make this
trip possible.

EXETER — The Exeter Hawks took a 1-0
lead Monday night in their OHA finals with
the Tavistock Braves with an 8-4 win.
The Braves advanced in six games with a 5-
4 win Friday night to eliminate Hagersville
which finished first overall in the regular sea-
son.
Game two in the series will be April 9 in
Exeter at 7:30 p.m. with game three in
Tavistock Sunday night at 7 p.m.
Game four will be April 14 in Exeter at 8
p.m. with game five in Tavistock April 15 at
7:30 p.m.
Games six and seven will be April 16 at 8
p.m. in Exeter and April 18 in Tavistock at 8
p.m.
With a 3-0 lead over Port Stanley, the
Hawks never allowed the Lakers a chance to
climb back in the series, jumping out to an 2-
0 lead in the first period on goals by Shawn
Sherwood and Matt Vlemmix.
Mike Gillen cut the lead in half for Port
Stanley early in the second but it was as close
as they would get.
The Hawks replied with three straight goals
before the period was over, building a 5-1
lead.
Jason Stuckless restored the Hawks two -
goal margin less than a minute after the
Lakers had scored with Sherwood adding his
second of the game five minutes later.
Stuckless added his second of the game
before the period was over to make it 5-2
going into the third.
The Lakers cut the margin to 5-2 in the
third but it was all they would get as exeter
goalie Cam Becker shut the door.
Exeter was perfect with its penalty killing,
not allowing a goal on six Laker advantages,
while converting one of its two man -advan-
tages and outshooting Port Stanley 37-26.
Picking up assists in the win were Henny
Pfaff and Adam Hartman each with a pair
and singles from Darcy McCutcheon and Evan
Lutz.
Exeter coach Dave Revington said Tavistock
has some size, good goaltending and a few
players who can score.
"This a team we haven't played one shift
against, so we'll just have to see what kind of
a team they are and adjust accordingly."
