HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2004-04-07, Page 2020 Wednesday,April 7, 2004 Students at South Huron District High School showed a generous spirit over the weekend with the school's 11th annual participation in the World Vision 30 -Hour Famine.Teacher Dave MacLeod called the famine "a great success," and said $7,700 was raised, bringing the school's eleven -year total to $46,000. Participating were 1 96 students, 14 staff members and two community members.The money raised goes to famine relief and education in Third World countries and projects to help street kids in Canada. Draw prizes were won by Marie Wilds, Eva Triebner, Martin Andrews, Edith Brintnell, Audrey McRoberts, Jean Estey, Elsie Faulder, Isabel Kerslake, Maida Gaiser, Ida McBride, Harry Klungel and Isa Smith. Shirley Snell won the 50/50 draw for the month. Birthdays were celebrated by Eldon Heywood, Janet McKinnon, Elsie Faulder and Olive Thomson. A card was sent to Audrey MacGregor and Isa Smith. On March 2, all heard two speeches from the winning students at Precious Blood School. Exeter Public School student Emily Hartman gave a speech on March 9. Also on this date, the wonder- ful duet of Harriet Vandenburgt and Diane Miller performed. Kim Winbow from the VON Palliative Care Volunteer Program spoke on March 16. Maxine Sereda read a funny story on potatoes. Mikayla and Mikenzie Skinner stepdanced. Faye Skinner started and concluded the day with an Irish blessing. On March 23, Marjorie Johns was the speaker and told of her trip to Japan. The Riverview Ramblers entertained with their danc- ing on March 30. Faye Skinner welcomed back Frances Ayotte and Gwenyth Hockey from their holidays to the sunny south. All sang happy anniversary to Harry Klungel on his 50th wedding anniversary Skinner welcomed several newcomers and hope they con- tinue to come for the great food and fellowship. POLICE BRIEFS SOUTH HURON — Huron OPP were called to the HMP dealership located on Main Street in Exeter over a theft April 2 shortly after 8 a.m. According to police, a new 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix had been jacked up and placed on cement blocks after four Good Year Eagle tires and chrome rims with accessories were stolen off the car while parked in the lot. The value of the theft is estimated at $4,400. If you have information on this theft call the local OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS). EXETER — On March 28 at 11:30 a.m. a break-in was reported to a residence on Huron Street in Exeter. The victim told police sometime between March 26 and March 28 someone forced open the door to the residence while they were away. Stolen from the house were eight Nintendo 64 game cartridges valued at $200. Huron OPP are continuing their investigation.
