Total Receipts 2,170 head of cattle, 671 lambs and goats Summary Tuesday: The fed steers and heifers sold at prices steady to last week. Fancy and double muscle steers & heifers: 90 to 100 sales to 106.75, Choice steers & heifers: 80-87, 2nd cut steers & heifers: 75-80. The cows traded at prices $3 to $5 higher. Thursday: The veal sold at prices $5 to $10 lower. The lambs also traded on a lower market with prices $10 to $15 lower than last week. Friday: The calves sold $2 to $3 higher while the yearlings traded on a steady market. Steers There were 426 steers on offer. John Wiersma, Blyth con- signed one black steer weigh- ing 1325 lbs which sold for 106.75. His overall offering of two steers averaged 1320 lbs selling for an average price of 98.41. Nineteen steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan averaged 1469 lbs selling for an average price of 84.15 with their top blonde steer weighing 1465 lbs selling to Dominion Meat Packers for 94. One red steer consigned by Charles Fischer, Brussels weighed 1290 lbs selling to Norval Meat Packers for 93. His overall offering of two red steers averaged 1313 lbs sell- ing for an average price of 88.55. Thirty holstein steers con- signed by Nature Farms, Burgessville averaged 1494 lbs selling for an average price of 67.95 with sales up to 80. Heifers There were 313 heifers on offer. Two blonde heifers con- signed by David Bowles, Brussels averaged 1293 lbs which sold for 103.50. His overall offering of nine heifers averaged 1253 lbs selling for an average price of 93.55. Sellers Farms, Bluevale con- signed twenty-two heifers aver- aging 1351 lbs selling for an average price of 87.58 with their top blonde heifer weigh- ing 1455 lbs selling for 102. Twelve heifers consigned by Neil Faulkner, Moorefield aver- aged 1411 lbs selling for an average price of 89.24 with his top two black heifers averaging 1378 lbs selling to Norwich Packers for 95.25. COWS There were 193 cows on offer. D181 D2: 25-30 sales to 38; D3: 20-25; D4: 10-15. Ron T. Rhame, Denfield con- signed two sim cows averaging 1685 lbs selling for an average price of 36.05 with sales to 38. Jacob D. Miler, Lucknow consigned two sim cows aver- aging 1468 lbs selling for an average price of 34.31 with sales to 37. Three hol cows consigned by Allan Detzler, Teeswater aver- aged 1373 lbs sold for an aver- age price of 31.14 with sales to 36. Bulls There were 8 brills on offer selling from 17 to 23. Jacob Visscher, Staffa con- signed one hol bull weighing 1630 lbs which sold for 23. One char bull consigned by Roy Dawson, Wingham weighed 2250 lbs which sold for 22. Veal There were 207 head of veal on offer. Beef: Not enough to establish market Good Holstein: 60-75 sales to 87. Medium Holstein: 35-50. Plain Holstein: 20-35. Linda Renkema, Londesborough consigned one gold steer weighing 710 lbs which sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for 107. Her overall offering of four gold veal steers averaged 668 lbs selling for an average price of 103.70. One red veal steer consigned by Mark & Paul Pennington, Mildmay weighed 705 lbs sell- ing to Holly Park Meat Packers for 96.50. George Ducharme, Dashwood consigned one black veal steer weighing 730 lbs which sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for 93. His overall offering of five veal calves aver- aged 693 lbs selling for an average of 80.48. Market Report for Tuesday, March 17, 2004 - The market at Denfield Livestock Sales traded on a good demand at steady prices on the good fed cattle with the fancy cattle in good demand at strong prices. Feeder cattle traded at stronger prices. Sows and boars easier. Todd Charlton, Denfield sold 9 steers avg. wt. 1389 lbs. avg. price 90.75 sales to 93 all purchased by Norwich Packers. Don Eedy and Mark Vanderploeg, Denfield sold 27 heifers avg. wt. 1362 lbs. avg. price 89.11 with sales to 95.25 pur- chased by Norwich Packers. Weigand Farms, Dashwood sold 4 steers avg. wt. 1354 lbs. avg. price 86.29 purchased by Norwich Packers. John McLinchey, Parkhill sold 22 steers avg. wt. 1569 lbs. avg. price 82.11. Urquhart Farms, St. Marys sold 20 heifers avg. wt. 1310 lbs. avg. price 82.
