March is Nutrition Month. Here is a tip on
cooking vegetables to retain maximum nutrition.
Steam them. Studies done on microwaved
broccoli found that most of the flavonoid content
and much of the phenolic compounds were reduced. These
compounds are responsible for the veggie's antioxidant effects.
We know that fibre keeps our digestive tracts regular and helps
lower cholesterol. The hottest fibre product right now is flaxseed.
About a tablespoonful of whole flaxseed is recommended daily. The
seeds must be crushed first and some people find using a coffee
grinder works best.
Medications in a patch are very convenient and work well. However,
not all medications are "patch -friendly" because their molecular size
is too large and the skin pores too small. Scientists are working on
ways of enlarging the skin openings through ultrasound or electric
current then applying a patch. It's still in the research stage but very
exciting.
More than 80% of patients occasionally miss a dose of their
medication. Missing doses can have an effect on the outcome of
therapy so it's important to know what to do if you forget to take a
dose or two. This can be especially important with birth control pills,
epilepsy and heart medications.
