wrap up
Tax increase
GODERICH —
Goderich taxpayers can
breathe a sigh of relief
after town councillors
approved a minimal
tax increase.
The Goderich Signal -
Star reported while the
2004 town budget
increase has tentatively
been set at 67 per cent,
that could drop to zero
depending upon the
fate of the Judith
Gooderham Pool.
Jr. D. fran-
chise
SEAFORTH
Despite some con-
cerns that not enough
money has been
raised locally to fund
a Junior D team's
annual budget, 16 of
the close to 25 people
who attended an
organizational meet-
ing March 11 signed
up to join an interim
executive.
The Huron
Expositor reported
organizer Jason
Papple has been lead-
ing a local effort to
resurrect a Junior D
team in Seaforth two
years after the demise
of the Seaforth
Centenaires.
Campground
owners fight
CLINTON — Area
campground owners
have vowed to contin-
ue to fight despite a
provincial govern-
ment ruling that
retroactive property
assessments for 2003
be cancelled.
The Clinton News -
Record reported Gerd
Keller, owner of the
Old Homestead
Campground, and Bob
Szusz, owner of
Kitchigami Family
Campground, were
part of a delegation to
address Huron County
council's committee of
the whole.
They asked the
county to consider an
annual fee system
instead of a proposed
property assessment
schedule that could
see campground fees
increase as much as
30 per cent.
Property vandalized
SOUTH HURON — On March 17 at 10 p.m.
OPP were called to a residence on Prince
Arthur in Centralia over a break-in. The
owner told police a neighbour spotted strange
activity by his house that night at approxi-
mately 9:15 p.m. He saw four people near the
house and found the patio door had been
forced open. The owner reported a
Retired
teacher
acquitted
GODERICH —A retired
South Huron District High
School teacher was acquit-
ted in Goderich court
March 12 for an assault
against a student last
March.
Cook was charged after
an incident at SHDHS
when he threatened the
student after removing
him from a classroom
where the student was
one of a group throwing a
chalk eraser.
Justice Garry Hunter
heard evidence that said
after taking the student
into the hallway, Cook told
him that if he moved, he'd
kill him, which was over-
heard by another teacher.
Cook was found guilty of
threatening the student,
but was granted an
absolute discharge based
on his absence of a crimi-
nal record and his employ-
ment as a teacher for 33
years.
Cook retired in June.

Steckle said the issue is
not animal science, but
political science.
Steckle said the
Canadian system leads
that of the Americans,
which does not include a
tag system.
He said the next step in
animal identification will
be through tracking
DNA.
The 30 -day comment
period from the United
States Department of
Agriculture report ends
April 6, at which time live
cattle under 30 months
may be allowed across
the border.
Steckle said letting cull
cows across could still
take a long time, though.
"If the key to open the
door were on our side, it
would already be open,"
he said.
Mastercraft cordless drill, green Mitre saw
and a small quantity of alcohol had been
stolen. A search of the area didn't turn up any
leads to the break-in. If you can help solve this
crime call the Exeter OPP office or contact
Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
SOUTH HURON — On March 18 at approxi-
mately 10:30 a.m. OPP were contacted by
family members of a residence on Elimville
Line in Usborne ward of South Huron over
property damage. The investigating officer
learned the owner was away for a few days
and family members were checking the resi-
dence. Sometime between March 12 and
March 18 someone stopped and threw eggs at
the mailbox in front of the house and also the
windshield of a vehicle sitting in the driveway.
Further checking found the 911 sign had been
removed from the house. If you can help solve
this case call the local OPP or Crime Stoppers
at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Two-level Design Hides the Garage Plan H 2-3-712 This basement entry home has unique appeal, thanks to the placement of the garage
doors to one side of the plan. This allows the garage itself to be disguised from the street. With its jogged wall, peaked roof and distinctive
shuttered windows, the garage looks more like two separate rooms. Attention is drawn to the double front doors, where a dramatic arched
entry offers protection from wind and rain. Stucco cladding, molded concrete details and a concrete roof add to the home's stately
appearance. The foyer, which is open to the second level above, is filled with natural light from a huge arched window above. Doors lead
from here to the garage on one side, a den on the other and the laundry room beyond. A large unfinished basement has room for two future
bedrooms, a bathroom and a recreation room with a wet bar. Sliding glass doors open from the basement to a covered backyard patio.
Upstairs, the main living area contains three bedrooms, a family -style kitchen and a large great room. Nine -foot ceilings throughout add to
the feeling of spaciousness. An arched doorway leads to the corner kitchen. A second arch appears over a half -wall beside the dining area,
which partly overlooks the foyer below. A large work island/eating bar with a built-in gas cook top is sure to inspire the cooks in the family.
Next to the kitchen, the great room has a gas fireplace flanked by built-in shelves for audio visual equipment. French doors open to a large
rear sundeck, providing added living space in summer. The master bedroom suite also has french doors opening to this deck, as well as two
side windows for ventilation. The ensuite has a double vanity as well as a separate shower
stall and soaker tub. Two secondary bedrooms share the main three-piece bathroom. A
corner linen cupboard in the hall provides extra storage. This two-level home is 43 feet
wide and 56 feet deep with 1,651 square feet of finished living space. Plans for design
H2-3-712 are available for $494 (set of 5), $571 (set of 8) and $620 for a super set of 10.
B.C. residents add 7.5% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $20.00 for Priority charges within B.C.
or $40.00 outside of B.C. Please add 7% G.S.T. or 15% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both
the plan price and Priority charges. The new 36th Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue
containing over 300 plans is available for $13.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling).
