Kids Care Day

Nursery forced
open, tools stolen
EXETER — On March 9 at 1:30 p.m.
OPP were contacted about a break-in at
the Greenway Nursery & Landscaping
business on Pickard Street in Exeter.
Sometime between March 6 and
March 9 someone forced open the doors
to the office and the work shed. A
Poulan cement saw, Karcher gas pow-
ered pressure washer and a water
pump were stolen. OPP officers out of
the Exeter office are investigating. If you
have information about this break-in or
the whereabouts of the stolen property
call the OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-
222-8477 (TIPS).
Skating carnival at Hensall arena Sun.Apr. 4

ZURICH - There will be a `Cor' weekend retreat for
teenagers from age 16-21 from March 26-28 in Dublin,
for more information call Dianne Miller at 236-4479.
May we offer our sincere sympathy to the family and
relatives of the late Doreen Denomme who died on
March 8, especially to her husband Joe.
A surprise 50th birthday party was held
recently for Mary Becker of Dashwood at ZURIC
the Hay Township Hall in Zurich with sev-
eral friends and relatives attending. Her birthday was
on Feb. 28.
Congratulations to Bill and Maddy Smith who cele-
brated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 27.
They went on a trip to Arizona and British Columbia
with their daughter Diane and John Wilds.
Marie Tieman of Exeter is happy to announce the
arrival of her first grandchild. A little boy, Charlie
Glenn Walter, was born on March 2 to proud parents
Julia and Mike Burton of Zurich.
Also congratulations to Charlie and Tammy
Ducharme on the arrival of their baby girl, Emma
Marie who was born on March 8.
Dick and Betty Bedard of RR 2 Zurich recently
enjoyed a nice month's vacation in the Dominican
Republic.
Come out to the ham bingo at the Township Hall in
Zurich on Thurs., March 25. It is sponsored by the
Blue Water Skating Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. with
bingo starting at 7 p.m.
Josephine Denomme returned home Sun., March 7
after a nice three-week holiday visiting with her chil-
dren in Calgary. Her daughter Debbie of Sarnia, trav-
elled with Josie to the home of son, Fred and Toni
Denomme and two children in Calgary. Another son
Stephen of Abbotsford, B.C. helped Josie celebrate her
birthday which was on Feb. 26.
The Zurich Bean Festival annual meeting will be on
Wed., March 17 at the Zurich Fire Hall at 7:30 p.m. All
service groups who worked at the 2003 Bean Festival
are asked to attend this meeting to collect their dona-
tion. For more information Call Rose Erb at 236-7733.
Wendy and Chantell Rowan of Hensall recently spent
the weekend in Waterloo with daughter,
Dana and Mike Bernhardt. They had fun
spoiling new little granddaughter, Tegan
Dawn who was born on Feb. 8. They also visited with
Melissa.
The Catholic Women's League Fun Night will be held
in Goderich on Mon., April 19 which begins with Mass
at St. Peter's Church at 6 p.m. Followed by dinner at
Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost is $16 a person.
The convention will be held in Woodstock this year
from April 26 to 27.
The Blue Water -Zurich Skating Club will be holding
their carnival at the Hensall Arena on Sun., April 4 at
2 p.m. `Wheels On Ice' is their theme. Please plan to
attend and support the club and see some good skat-
ing.
Get your ticket for the first big event being held at the
Blue Water Community Centre in Zurich on Sat., April
17 at 9 p.m. It is an Elimination Draw and Video Dance
(BX93) Tickets are available at J & L Variety or from
any Minor Athletic Association members for $20 a per-
son. Plan to come out and see the new building and
have fun at the same time.
It was very exciting to attend the 2004 Ontario
Winter Games Opening Ceremonies held in London
Thurs., March 11 at the John Labatt Centre along with
Heather, Rene and Tootie. I couldn't believe how big

the centre was. It was packed. We had really good
seats near the stage. It was really nice to see the
Exeter Novice Classics Synchronized Skating Team in
the Parade of Athletes, among several other team
sports that were taking place all weekend at various
places. The skaters on the Exeter team that I knew
were Heidi Klopp, and Alyssa Becker along with coach
Kathy McLlwain. It was also great to see Brian Orser
skating in person.
Tickets are now on sale for the Canadian
Championships Skating being held at the J. L. Centre
in London from Jan. 17-23, 2005, by calling 519-488-
1012.
The Zurich Beavers along with their leaders recently
enjoyed going on an outing to Tim Hortons in Grand
Bend. On March 24 they will be visiting the Zurich
Veterinary Clinic.
The Zurich cubs have been busy. They went bowling
in Goderich recently. After the March break on March
23, they will be going swimming at the new YMCA
building in Goderich. It is Sap Night on March 30 at the
bush.
Some members of the Blue Water Zurich Skating
Club took part hi the WOSWIC Competition this past
weekend held in Sarnia.
Hubert and Vesta Miller of Dashwood recently
returned from a two-week vacation in Houston, Texas.
While there they enjoyed a five-day cruise from
Galvinston to Cozamal, Mexico. Also on the cruise were
Vickie and Bob Hutchinson and Bob's parents from
Sarnia. Bob and Dianne (Miller) Biggam from Toronto
also flew to Texas and had the privilege of babysitting
Vickie and Bob's three girls.
Carmel's Zurich column will not appear on March
24. She will return from holidays to write her column
in time for the March 31 edition.
