In all three cases the request is sent from doctors claiming to be involved with Nigeria, South Africa and Switzerland. The letters say they have large sums of money ($25 5 million, $36 million, $26 million) because of political or economic instability, the death of someone —either their country a foreigner or a victim at the World Trade Center — and they want help in disposing the money in the accounts they have found. They say they are looking for a trustworthy person who will help in the transaction. The recipients are told they will received 25 per cent of the funds if they supply the writer with their address, phone numbers and account numbers. The OPP wants to remind the public not to give out any information and to report any suspicious e-mails. Anne Osgood.
