Shrove Tuesday

South Huron District High School handed out student of the month honours last
week, with Mario Arounlasy and Seth Weber taking the awards for February and
January, respectively. From left are principal Jeff Reaburn,Arounlasy,Weber and
school council chairperson Karen Brown.Arounlasy received his award for helping
other classmates in Grade 9, while Weber was awarded student of the month for
improving skills, attitude, knowledge and values in a special education program.

THAMES ROAD - Rev. Marilyn
Carter was in charge of the second
Sunday in Lent church service on
Sunday morning. The Easter Introit
was sung and people shook hands.
Rev. Carter gave greetings and the
announcements. Joyce
Fulton gave a minute
for council stating
advance tickets for our strawberry
supper in June will be available.
Marjorie Johns and Fred Delbridge
are the Presbytery Reps. Rev. Carter
led in the Call to Worship, Prayer of
Approach and the Affirmation of Faith
in unison. Brett Warwick lit the Christ
Candle. Rev. Carter told the boys a
story, About Warnings.
The choir sang, The Blood of the
Lamb, accompanied by pianist Jean
Hodgert. Psalm 27 was read respon-
sively; and Rev. Carter read Luke 13:
31-35, and the title of her sermon was
Standing Firm. Helen Weston read a
Minute For Mission, It Comes From
Korea. Ray and Alice Cann received
the offering as well as being the
greeters, and Helen Weston brought
items for the food bank forward. All
took part in the Commissioning and
Rev. Carter pronounced the
Benediction and all sang, May the God
of Hope Go With Us.

New Youth Centre Now Open. The
Centre is free of charge to anyone 16-
24 in Huron County. The Centre has
computer access, foosball, music, air
hockey, food and a comfy sitting area
to hang out with friends. Through the
Centre you can also access community
resources, emergency service, recre-
ation programs, counselling, job
search info, training, arts and culture
programs and special events. Centre
is open Monday to Thursday from 3
p.m. to 8 p.m. at 264 Main St. in
Trivitt Memorial Church (the Centre
has no religious affiliation). The
Centre will be closed when Exeter
schools and/or Hwy. 4 are closed.
The Mission and Outreach commit-
tee is in need of one more member.

Hoe Down
About 50 people gathered in the
church basement last Friday evening
for a hoe down. The basement was
decorated with burlap, flowers, cow-
boy boots and hats, saddle, horse col-
lar, bridle, whipple trees, baled straw
etc., which made it very effective for
the evening. The orchestra was com-
posed of Ray Cann and Bill Rohde on

Cottage break-in
violins, Ivan Norris and Harry Jeffery
on banjos and Jean Hodgert on the
piano. Lois Hodgins called off for
square dances. There was also
French minuet, heel and toe polka
and waltzes. There were finger foods,
punch and pizzas. Everyone reported
having a good time. The orchestra
and Lois Hodgins received a potted
rose. Helen Kadey and Rev. Marilyn
Carter spoke a few words.
BAYFIELD — On Feb. 28 at 12:15 p.m.
OPP were called to a seasonal residence
in Bayfield because of a break-in. The
victim told police sometime in the last
month a door to the cottage was forced
open. A 27 inch Zenith television, VCR
and some alcohol was stolen. The theft
is valued at $850 plus damages to the
door. If you can help the OPP solve this
break-in contact the Huron detachment

Generator stolen
from sugar shack
SOUTH HURON-- On Feb. 29 at 10:45
a.m. a theft was reported from a sugar
shack on Union Line in South Huron.
The victim told police the day before he
had taken a Honda Model 1500 genera-
tor to the bush lot on his property and
placed it inside the shack. Snowmobiles
are allowed to use the shack while on
the trail. The generator, some hand tools
and a propane torch were stolen. If you
can help the OPP solve this crime call
the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-
800-222-8477(TIPS).
World Day of Prayer
Christians around the world recognized the World Day of Prayer March 5. Locally,
a service was held in Exeter at Caven Presbyterian Church.The focus of this year's
day was the country of Panama, about which participants learned the country's
culture, wildlife and economy. Pictured above are representatives from the local
