Exeter and Lucan will finish regular season play Sunday night with Lucan visiting Exeter at 7:30 p.m. for a make- up game. The Hawks sit one point up on Lucan with 55 points after defeating N. Middlesex 4-3 Friday night and Lambeth 6-5 Sunday night. The wins give the Hawks a 25-6-3-2 record with four games remaining against Belmont tonight (Wednesday) at 8:30 p.m. and Mt. Brydges visiting Friday night at 8:30 p.m. Exeter will be back in Belmont Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. game before wrapping up its schedule Sunday at home against Lucan. With 35 points, Mitchell is two points up on N. Middlesex. Tavistock leads Hagersville by two points for first overall with 6 points. Despite the Hawks outshooting the Stars 45-17 Friday night, Exeter coach Dave Revington said they were fortu- nate to get the win. The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with a pair of goals three minutes apart before Jason Stuckless cut the lead in half a minute later. The Hawks came out strong in the sec- ond period, keeping the Stars pinned in their own zone for the first several shifts, but it was N. Middlesex striking again two minutes into the period for a 3-1 lead. Exeter continued to dominate the play, with Darcy McCutcheon slamming Shaun Dornstyn to the ice as the Hawks continued to press the attack. Outshooting the Stars 17-4 in the peri- od, the pressure fmally paid off as Pat Clark broke in and flipped a shot over Parkhill goalie Josh McAllister to cut the lead to 3-2. Midway through the third period, Shawn Sherwood tied it up with a low shot that found its way through McAllister's pads. With a minute left in the game Exeter took the lead for the first time. Sherwood jammed home a loose puck after Chad Deman undressed a pair of N. Middlesex defenceman and fired a shot McAllister saved, but couldn't cover. The Stars pulled their goalie in the last minute trying to get the equalizer, but Exeter hung on for the 4-3 win. Picking up assists in the win were Deman with a pair, and Adam Hartman, Justin Knee, and Pat Clark. Neither team was able to score with the man advantage, Exeter going 0-7 and the Stars 0-3. Facing Lambeth Sunday night, the Hawks built a 3-0 in the first period on goals by Jeff Finkbeiner, Justin LaPorte and Deman before seeing their lead dis- appear in the second. Four Lancer goals with a lone reply from Travis Elder for the Hawks made it a 4-4 game going into the third period. For the second game in a row it was Sherwood supplying the offence in the third, putting the Hawks ahead just under a minute into the period. The Lancers tied it 5-5 at 12:20, but with three minutes left Sherwood put the Hawks ahead for good. Exeter outshot Lambeth 44-34, going two for seven on the power play, and giving up a pair of goals on four Lambeth man advantages. Getting a pair of assists each in the game were Michael Carnegie and Justin Knee with singles to Finkbeiner, Scott Davies, Dan Moir,Brandon Wedlock, Stuckless and Joe Nesbitt.
