WINTER CHILLS CALL FOR WARM AND COMFORTING
FOOD. I CAN REMEMBER MANY A TIME GOING TO MY
GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE AND WALKING IN THE DOOR TO
THE SMELL OF SOUPS, STEWS OR FULL COURSE DINNERS.
FRESH BAKED BREAD WAS COMMON AND EVEN TODAY
THE SMELLS OF SUCH CAUSE ME TO RECALL TIMES SPENT
THERE. IT IS ONLY FITTING THAT MY FIRST RECIPE IN A
NEW WEEKLY COLUMN WOULD BE ONE FROM MY
GRANDMOTHER PURDY. ENJOY!!
Bacon Corn Chowder
1/2 pound of bacon diced
1 medium onion diced
2 stalks celery chopped
1 - 19 oz can of creamed corn
4 potatoes peeled and diced
salt and pepper to taste
mill< (to thin the soup)
Prepare the potatoes, place in a small pot and cover with
water, boil till soft. In a dutch oven pot or soup pot fry the
bacon till starting to crisp, then acid the onion and celery.
Continue to saute till onion is limp but not browned. Season
with salt and pepper. Add the potatoes and the water they
were cooked in, add the corn and bring the soup to a slow
boil, stirring frequently. Add milk to get the desired
consistency and serve up hot!

Help carry hope to
Exeter.
Here's some food for thought. By dropping off non-
perishable food donations at your local Tim Hortons in
Exeter, you're not only providing food, you're
delivering hope. Your generosity will make a big
difference to our local food bank and go a long way
towards helping families in need, right here in our
own community.
