Total Receipts 1789 head of cattle, 409 lambs and goats Summary Tuesday: The fed steers and heifers sold on a steady active trade with prices as follows: Fancy strs & hfrs- 90 to 102.25, Choice strs & hfrs - 84 to 88, Second cut strs & hfrs- 80 to 84. Cows sold on a steady market. Thursday: Veal sold on a steady market while the lambs sold $ 5 - $10.00 lower. Friday: The calves sold steady. The yearling steers sold on a strong trade while the yearling heifers sold under pressure. Steers There were 440 steers on offer. Enoch Martin, Linwood con- signed two limo steers averag- ing 1403 lbs which sold to Norwich Packers for 102.25. His overall offering of fifteen steers averaged 1468 lbs sell- ing for an average price of 95.61. Ten steers consigned by Levi Sherk, St Clements averaged 1382 lbs selling for an average price of 91.90 with his top limo steer weighing 1330 lbs selling to Dominion Meat Packers for 98. Reuben B. Martin, St Clements consigned fifteen gold steers averaging 1403 lbs selling for an average price of 92.12 with his top two gold steers averaging 1340 lbs sell- ing to Norwich Packers for 93.50. Heifers There were 157 heifers on offer. Twenty-four heifers con- signed by Sellers Farms, Bluevale averaged 1377 lbs selling for an average price of 91.35 with their top limo heifer weighing 1315 lbs sell- ing to Norwich Packers for 99.50. Bill, Sheena & Marshall Haines, Wingham consigned one black heifer weighing 1355 lbs which sold to Dominion Meat Packers for FARM BRIEF Online information Agriculture and Agri -Food Canada (AAFC) has created a Web site to help Canadian farmers and consumers learn about reduced -risk pesticides and the benefits from their increased availability. The Risk Reduction Program highlights priorities for pest management tools that reduce pesticide risks. Under the program, AAFC works with provincial and industry partners to determine pest -manage- ment gaps and sectorial needs. The Minor Use Program will help improve access to such pesticides. AAFC collaborates with produc- ers, industry and the provinces to match pest prob- lems with appropriate pesticides, conduct field tests and prepare pesticide submissions for federal approval. FARM BRIEF Not a summer employment program The Government of Canada annually helps up to 100 agri-science and veterinary college and uni- versity graduates fmd longer-term employment. The Career Focus Program of the Youth Employment Strategy funds science and technolo- gy internships to help young people gain work experience. At Agriculture and Agri -Food Canada, Career Focus has $800,000 to contribute to pro- jects that offer internships lasting up to 12 months. Organizations in agri-food science or veterinary medicine that want to sponsor an internship must submit proposals, recruit graduates and share the cost of each project. The program is intended for unemployed or under -employed young people who have studied in a science program focused on bio- logical, agricultural and veterinary science or applied technology. 99.50. The market at Denfield Livestock traded on a good demand at fully steady prices on all classes of fed cat- tle with the fancy cattle bringing a premium. Cows sold slightly higher, sows higher.
