The first game in Hensall started out well for the Sherwoods, when Jarrett Jeffrey scored seven and a half minutes into the game on a set up from Jeff Glavin. The River Rats tied it up three minutes later and that's the way the first period ended. There was no scoring in the second, and three minutes into the third period the Rat's went ahead, and seemed to be in con- trol. Three straight Georgian Bay penalties led to two power play goals for the Sherwoods. Chris Kennedy scored the first from Sean McCann and Derek McKinlay. One minute and twen- ty seconds later Mark Bell scored the winner from Jeremy Geoffrey and Dan Taylor. The Sherwoods out - shot the River Rats 44- 39 on the game and Scott Wood made some incredible saves in goal for Hensall. Referee Jim Lewis called Hensall for eight minor penalties and Georgian Bay 12. Sunday in Thornbury the teams played a scoreless first period. The Rat's scored on the power play just 39 sec- onds into the second period. Geoffrey knotted the game at one six min- utes into the period on an unassisted wrap around goal, that came with the Sherwoods short handed. Three minutes later Nate Burns gave the 'Woods a 2-1 lead as deked out the goalie after taking a feed from Geoffrey. Todd McCann also assisted. Georgian Bay scored on the power play with 12 seconds left in the second to tie it at two after two. Todd McCann scored the winner on a scramble in front of the net three and a half minutes into the third. Geoffrey and Josh Smith assisted on the goal. The Sherwoods had four minors while the River Rats had two. Andy Glavin was very solid in goal for Hensall. NOTES: Next game in the best of five series is Saturday night in Hensall at 8:30 p.m. Game 4 if necessary would be in Thornbury Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Game five would be Wed. Feb 11 at 9:30 p.m. in Hensall. Hensall coach Randy Parker said "We have never seen Georgian Bay before this week- end, so we did not know what to expect." "They play tough physical in your face hockey, and are pretty well coached. They have a good goalie that has played some minor pro hockey." "They are giving us a good battle, and hope- fully we can put them away. Our goaltending was outstanding in both games with Wood and Glavin both appearing to be at the top of their games." "Jeremy Geoffrey had a solid weekend with four points on the six goals. We were able to roll four lines both games and everyone dressed contributed well." In other matchups Elora took a 2-0 lead over Tavistock, Milverton leads Listowel 1-0, Wingham took a 1-0 lead over Shelburne and Ripley defeated Brussels -2-0 in their best of three series to decide which team would face Clinton.
