POLICE BRIEFS Youth's parent charged SOUTH HURON — Huron OPP officers were contacted about a snowmobile crash at the rear of a business just off Elgin Street in South Huron Jan. 17 shortly after 12 p.m. The investigating officer learned a staff member heard a noise at the rear of the business and saw a yel- low and black snowmobile had struck the building. The person also saw a youth running from the scene. OPP officers were called and when they arrived at the scene the father and the youth were also there. Police were told the 12 -year-old male youth had been driving the snowmobile when he lost control and struck the build- ing. Damage was slight, but the youth driving the snow- mobile was not insured. His 38 -year-old father from South Huron was charged as an adult owner permitting the operation of a snowmobile without insurance. Car window smashed HURON PARK — On Jan. 30 at 5:15 a.m. OPP were called to a residence on Algonquin Drive in Huron Park over mischief. The investigating officer learned that sometime through the night someone threw a beer bot- tle through the back window of a parked 4Dr 1994 Mercury Topaz. If you can help solve this crime call the local OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Valentine luncheon Sunday at Hibbert By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the regular church service on Sunday morning. The Introit was sung and people shook hands, Rev. Carter gave greetings, the announcements and led in the Call to Worship, Prayer of Approach and the Affirmation of Faith in unison. Corey Smith lit the Christ Candle. Rev. Carter told the youth a story, What or Who Can You Count On? The choir sang, To God Be the Glory accompanied by the organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Psalm 71 was read responsively. Rev. Carter read 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13, and the title of her sermon was, The Have in Behaviour. Ruth Anne Osgood gave a Minute for Mission. Gerald Cunnington and Bill Rohde received the offering as well as being the greeters and Osgood took some items for the Foodbank. All read the Commissioning and Rev. Carter pronounced the Benediction. All sang, May the God of Hope go With Us. Announcements Feb. 8 - Annual meeting. Following the church ser- vice there will be a potluck lunch followed by the annual meeting. Feb. 8 - Treat the special someone in your heart to a Valentine Luncheon at Hibbert United Church from noon to 2:30 p.m. Cost: donation. Menu: soup, sand- wiches, coffee, tea, juice, dessert, good fellowship. Feb. 10 - UCW meeting. Program: Carolyn Johns, Joan Morgan, Kay Cunnington, Melonie Miller. Roll call: Your favorite winter hobby or pastime. Lunch: Shirley Cooper, Nancy Smith, Margaret McCarter, Grace Pym. Here's hoping it is a sign that February will be less wintry. At the Granton - Wesley United Church on Sun., Feb. 1 (Epiphany 4) Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the message, Known by God. The lessons were from Jeremiah 1, Luke 4 and 1 Corinthians 13. Meredith Dodds lit the Christ Candle. The ministry of music was, Long Before the Night.
