TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The Mitchell Hawks
proved to be as tough an opponent as
Exeter coach Dave Revington had pre-
dicted, coming back from a 3-1 deficit
Friday night at the Rec Centre to win a
hard fought 5-4 overtime game.
The overtime loss gives the Hawks a
21-5-3-2 record for 47 points, tied for
first in the division with Lucan. Both
teams are four points behind Tavistock
and Hagersville, who are tied for
first overall with 51 points.
Exeter got a pair of goals from
Jeff Finkbeiner in the first period,
with a power play goal at 16:10
opening the scoring.
Finkbeiner took a cross ice
pass from Shawn Sherwood and fired a
wristshot over the blocker off Mitchell
goalie Andrew Daub.
Mitchell tied it with six minutes left in
the period, but Exeter retook the lead
when Finkbeiner broke down the wing
and fired a slapshot into the top corner
for a 2-1 lead.
Just over two minutes later Michael
Carnegie kept the puck in at the Mitchell
blueline and fired a low shot past Daub
for a two -goal Exeter lead.
But the second period was all Mitchell
as they scored three straight goals to
take a 4-3 lead.
After Mitchell had cut the lead to one,
and with Exeter pressing on a power
play, Daub made three saves in succes-
sion and made a pad save later in the
period as Jason Stuckless cut across the
net, keeping it a one -goal lead.
Late in the period Mitchell took advan-
tage of Exeter running into penalty trou-
ble for a pair of power play goals.
The visitors tied it on a deflection
Exeter goalie Cam Becker had no
chance on, and took the lead on a shot
from the blueline Becker couldn't get all
of that dropped into the net.
Mitchell fired only three shots in the
third trying to protect their lead, but
Brandon Wedlock tied it up midway
through the period with a shot under-
neath the crossbar to force it to over-
time.
But it was Mitchell that capitalized first
scoring at 3:20 of the extra
period for the win. Exeter
out shot the visitors 36-31 and
was one for two on the power
play, with Mitchell two for four.
Stuckless,Wedlock, Finkbeiner,
Pat Clark, and Justin LaPorte picked up
assists.
The Hawks had a makeup game
Tuesday night in Mt. Brydges, and have
two game this weekend, with the
Bulldogs in town at 8:30 p.m. which will
be Precious Blood School night at the
Rec Centre .

LUCAN — A 4-0 lead going into the third period
made it look like the Yeck conference would cruise to
a win in the Junior D allstar game in Lucan Saturday
night.
But six goals by the McConnell conference in the
third period, including two in the last minute forced it
to overtime, and with neither team able to score in
the extra time, it ended 6-6.
With four goals Mark Landon of Belmont was
awarded player of the game for the Yeck conference
and John Ralf took the award for McConnell.
Lucan goalie Joe Dobbie was perfect in the first
period for Yeck, stopping everything he faced, as was
Exeter goalie Justin Hayter in the second as Yeck
built their 4-0 lead through the first two periods.
Yeck increased their lead to 6-1 lead in the third
but McConnell came alive with three
goals past North Middlesex goalie
Nick Lamb.
With a 6-4 lead and a minute left,
it looked as if Yeck would hold off
McConnell but a pair of goals by Pt.
. Dover's John Ralf forced the overtime.
