Muffin and coffee time everyTuesday morning in Zurich

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - The Alzheimer Society's annual indoor -Walk
for Memories' will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 10
a.m. to noon at the South Huron District High School,
Exeter. Pledge sheets can be picked up at Shoppers
Drug Mart, The Town Hall or at the High School office.

The Zurich Golden Agers, for the winter months are
having their card parties in the afternoon, at the
Township Hall. The next one is on Jan 26, 1:30 p.m.
with progressive euchre being played. Everyone is wel-
come.
The Zurich Atoms hockey team and their parents trav-
elled to Rockton to play in a tournament on
Jan. 10 and 11 (12 boys). Congratulations
to Josh Groot who won the trophy for the
best goalie in the skills competition.
The bank closing meeting that was held at the Zurich
Mennonite Church on Jan. 13 had a good turn out (in
spite of the bad weather). Everyone had gone with
hopes of saving the Bank of Montreal in town. But, it
seems to be all finalized. The Zurich Branch is moving
to Hensall in June 2004. Before the meeting was over,
with listening to them talking from Toronto, everyone
just got up and left. We'll have to see what happens
next.
Two members of the Blue Water Zurich Skating Club
(out of the Hensall Arena) took part in the Great Lakes
Winter Festival Competition held in London Jan. 9 to 11.
Leeanne Bechard came in second and Tanya Prang won
third place in their groups. The next competition will
take place on Feb. 7 in Thamesford (Stars Central).
The family and friends skating night at the Exeter
Arena is Sunday, Jan. 25 from 7-8 p.m. All three
Synchronized Skating teams will be putting on a sneak
preview to let us see what they will be doing in the
upcoming competitions.
Take a "Walk in the Sun" - at Huron Ridge Acres
every Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during
the months of January to March. No charge.
Dog Tags for 2004 are now due. The cost is $15 until
the end of February and $25 after the due date. You can
purchase them during working hours at the Blue Water
Municipal Office in Zurich.
The United Church is still having their muffin and cof
fee time every Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
Come out and join them. Bring along a friend as well.
A Surprise "65th" Birthday Party was held for Jerome
Sweeney on Sunday, Jan. 18 at St. Boniface Parish Hall,
with several relatives, friends, family members and
neighbours attending from various places. The happy
occasion was arranged by his wife and five daughters.
A good time was had by all who attend-
ed the Surprise 70th Birthday party of
Donna Klopp held on Friday at the home
of friends, Francine and Mike. The party was given by
her five children and husband Herb. Many friends and
relatives attended. Donna's birthday is on Jan. 27.
Bob Kirk enjoyed going on a bus trip to the Car Show
in Detroit, Michigan last week.
Jerome and Carmel enjoyed going to see the musical
play "The Mikado" at Talbot Theatre last week in
London at University of Western Ontario, which is the
50th Anniversary of Gilbert and Sullivan Productions.
Linda Hendrick spent last week in Barrie with daugh-
ter Andrea and Mark Watson and helped out with new
little granddaughter Grace, who was born on Jan. 6,
2004. On Sunday, big brother Leighton came back with
grandma to Zurich for a visit.
A nice family get-together was held at Erb's Country
Kitchen last Monday to say good-bye to Louella Willert
who is moving to Alberta on Jan. 17. Also her 94th
birthday which is in February was celebrated.
Wow! I just got a letter from Avon Canada saying "It's
Your Anniversary." As of Jan. 4, 2004, I have been sell-
ing Avon in Zurich for 15 years. It is hard to believe that

it has been that many years.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Julienne Geoffrey
who is 5 years old on Jan. 20.
Happy 93rd birthday to Anne -Marie Watson on Jan.
25 at the Blue Water Rest Home. Also happy birthday to
our son-in-law, Dan Eybergen of Oakville, who will be
40 -years -old on Jan. 29.
Christian Unity week

GRANTON - At the Granton -Wesley United Church on
Sunday, January 18, Lay Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the
message `God's Unending Goodness.'
Morgan Toll lit the Christ Candle. The lessons were
from Isaiah 62, 1st Corinthians 12 and John 2. The chil-
dren's time was about Blessings and the Ministry of
Music was `Come, Let us Sing.' Flowers in the sanctuary
were from the Hewlett -Waters wedding on Saturday
afternoon.
January 18-25 is Prayer and Christian Unity week.

this week is a time for
Christians throughout the
world to pray for each other and to promote Christian
Unity.
The U.C.W. Executive meeting scheduled for
Wednesday evening, January 14 at the home of Lillus
Riddell was postponed due to the weather. It was held
on Sunday after the church service Program plans were
made for the upcoming year.
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday,
January 18, (Epiphany 2) Christine Downey led the ser-
vice of morning prayer. The message was about reach-
ing out and helping each other. The lessons were read
by Jill Schaus.
