Harness seeks nomination
MIDDLESEX-KENT-
LAMBTON — With a fed-
eral election expected this
spring local businessman
Brad Harness has
announced he is seeking
the Conservative Party of
Canada nomination in the
new Middlesex-Kent-
Lambton riding.
The riding association
will hold its founding
meeting Jan. 27 in
Strathroy. Harness is self-
employed and a resident
of Middlesex County,
where he and his wife and
children live in the village
of Ailsa Craig. Harness
has been involved in the
federal political scene
since the early 1980s, first
the Progressive
Conservative Party and
then the Reform Party and
Canadian Alliance.
He was active in
Reform's early days,
working on the expansion
into eastern Canada from
Ottawa. He was the first
Regional Co-ordinator in
Eastern Ontario and set
up 21 riding associations
there in 1990-91.
Locally Harness has
been active in his commu-
nity, coaching minor
sports and working on
local projects dealing with
recreation, the arts, and
museums. During his time
in Ottawa, Harness
worked for the federal
government and says he
saw many abuses of the
political system, some-
thing he vows to correct if
elected to Parliament.
Harness says if he wins
the Conservative nomina-
tion in Middlesex-Kent-
Lambton, he looks for-

Scholarships for teens
to study abroad
ASSE International, offering foreign exchange pro-
grams in Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, Brazil,
Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, is currently
seeking applications from local high school students who
would like to spend a year studying in a foreign country.
The exchange year may cost no more than a year at
home. ASSE programs are offered to students at cost.
The host family does not receive a fee or reimbursement
for expenses. ASSE host families will provide meals and
lodging; all they ask in return is that the student partici-
pate as a responsible member of the family, assuming
their fair share of chores around the house and sharing
in family activities.
Qualified students interested in foreign exchange
opportunities have access to scholarships to defray their
exchange program costs. Students will be judged mainly
on a basis of financial need and academic excellence, as
well as, an essay, an interview, evaluation and other
application requirements.
To qualify, students must be no younger than 15 nor
older than 18 years of age upon departure, and be
mature enough to adjust to the different values, lifestyle
and attitudes of a foreign country. Students must also be
in good standing hi the upper third of their class or have
a B grade average, be in good health and have excellent
character references.
For more information on how to qualify to study
abroad or on how to become a host family for a student
coming to Canada, please call 1-800-361-3214 or visit

Biddulph were all can-
celled because of the bad
weather. Bluewater's
meeting was re -sched-
uled for Wednesday.
Clarification
The Times -Advocate
reported Jan. 7 a man
and his mother were
charged with abduction
after two children were
taken from their mother
in Huron Park New
Year's Day.
The article was based
on incorrect information
from the OPP. In fact, no
charges were laid or will
be laid.

"By offering kitchen -table interviews as an option,
we hope to overcome those barriers; we need to
hear from those parents who are feeling isolated
and alone to find out how we can better support
them in their important role as parents."
Participant names will not be attached to any
interview notes; no personal information or infor-
mation that could identify the participants will be
shared. Participants will receive $10 to thank them
for their time.
