EXETER — The new South Huron
medical centre is ready to
week.
Equipment from the
Practice Clinic on Main
Street will move
Wednesday to the clin-
ic's new home at the for-
mer Professional
Building across from
South Huron Hospital.
The new centre will be
open to the public
Thursday.
Renovations on the
building, which started
in September, cost
$348,000, said hospital
clinical site leader
Maureen Cole, with
another $60,000 for fur-
nishings for six examination rooms.
The hospital board and foundation
each committed $100,000 to the pro-
ject, with the Exeter Community
Development Fund pledge also kick-
ing in $100,000. Once the Family
Practice Clinic building on Main
open this
Family
Street is sold, the proceeds will go
back to the fund.
Doctors Philip Chan and Nicola
McLean will hold their family prac-
tices in the new centre and another
family doctor has committed to move
into the new centre in June 2005.
Cole said the hospital is
working with
Southwestern Ontario
Rural Regional Medicine,
a group that helps
recruit doctors to under -
serviced areas. Medical
students graduating in
June will be invited to a
March open house at the
medical clinic.
The walk-in clinic also
moves into the new cen-
tre and will be open
Monday to Friday, 4-7
p.m., and Saturday and
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3
p.m. Dr. Bill Steciuk's office will
remain in the Professional Building,
but he will maintain his solo prac-
tice.
The hospital is still fundraising to
complete furnishings in the new cen-
tre.

Child research project
needs participants
HURON — The Centre for Research
and Education in Human Services (The
Centre) is working with the Huron
County Health Unit, Rural Response for
Healthy Children, Pathways to Self -
Sufficiency, and the Huron -Bruce
Ontario Early Years Centre to learn
more about the experiences of low-
income and isolated families with young
children in Huron County.
The Centre, on behalf of Huron
County health and child care agencies,
hopes to interview 40 families from
across the county who have at least one
child six years of age or younger.
Survey results will provide valuable
insight into what needs are not being
met and how local health and child care
agencies could better plan for and pro-
vide appropriate services and pro-
grams.
"This research project provides par-
ents with an opportunity to talk about
their experiences raising children in
Huron County," says the health unit's
Penny Nelligan.
"We want to hear directly from the
parents about what they need and
whether or not Huron County service
providers are offering appropriate pro-
grams and services to meet those
needs."
The 60 minute interview can occur in
your home or at a quiet and confiden-
tial interview location in your communi-
ty.
"Often, those families who could bene-
fit most by participating in local
research are not able because of trans -
