Davis SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT SAINTSBURY - On Sun., Jan. 11, The Rev. Stanley Jay visited St. Patrick's to celebrate the Holy Eucharist and the Baptism of the Lord. Bob MacGillivray and Margaret Carroll assisted with the scripture lessons. Starr Davis was server and assistant to Rev. Jay. Prayers were said remembering those absent with colds and flu; the service closed with recessional hymn. The annual vestry meeting was held, following the service, over lunch and cof- fee. Margaret Carroll, vestry clerk, read the minutes of last year's meeting follow- ing Rev. Jay's opening prayer. All posi- tions remained the same with People's Warden Bob MacGillivray, Rector's Warden Margaret Carroll, Youth Delegate to Synod Katie -Scarlett MacGillivray, Lay Delegate to Synod Hazel Davis, Substitute Lay Delegate Suzanne Davis, Treasurer Hazel Davis and Vestry Clerk Margaret Carroll. Rev. Jay expressed his thanks for the support of the young people who are so faithful and for all from St. Patrick's who have again had a very successful year. A number of special dates were dis- cussed: Palm Sunday, Apr. 4: Archdeacon John Spencer to officiate and preach; May 4: Spring A.C.W. Perth Deanery Meeting with Mrs. Gayle King as guest speak- er, her topic --`Spice of Life', followed by Compline Service; Pre -Synod Great Chapter in May --no date set as yet. Thank you Heather MacGillivray, on behalf of everyone present, expressed thanks to Rev. Jay and his wife Liz for their love and guidance for the years they have played such a big part in the life at St. Patrick's since 1995 and to all those holding offices and to everyone eager to get lunches organized, cutting grass and looking after the heating and cleaning, making 2003 one of the most successful and amazing years. Year-end forms will be delivered to the Huron Church House this week. The meeting closed in prayer. SAINTSBURY NEWS Belated Queensway Christmas party today HENSALL - Queensway belated Christmas Party will be happening Jan. 14 at 2 p.m., with everyone welcome. John and Geneva Heaman with their wonderful country sound will provide music for the afternoon. Come and enjoy music, refresh- ment and door prizes. On opening after two weeks of our facility clo- sure, residents were happy to welcome the new year at their party Dec. 31 at 2 p.m., with entertainment by Paul Dearlove and the Dukes of Dixie. A good crowd soaked up the super sounds of this terrific jazz band. Queensway volunteer auxiliary met Jan. 6 and discussed several upcom- ing events. We are partici- pating in the Jan. 24 Annual Alzheimer Walk For Memories to raise funds for the Huron County Society. Queensway residents, vol- unteers, staff and family members join in this annual walk at the Exeter High School location. Shirley Luther of the Salvation Army led wor- ship Tuesday afternoon with a message 011 the hope of believers. Belva Fuss was the volunteer organist. Other programs throughout the week were manicures, games, euchre, art group, coffee and current events and exercises. At Hensall United Church the service began with welcome and announcements followed by the Passing of the Peace. Chuck Mallette was the organist with Doug and Judi Walker looking after the ushering duties. Lillian Beer greet- ed the worshippers. Fred Darke's message was 'A Different Kind of Baptism.' Cecil Pepper read the scripture lesson. Upcoming events at Hensall United Church are as follows: a dessert euchre on Feb. 4; an irish stew on March 10; confir- mation class on Jan. 14 at 4 p.m.; drop-in on Jan. 15; study book on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m.; and the annual meeting on Jan. 25. T h e P.C.W. of Carmel Presbyterian Church held their January meeting with Marilyn Campbell presiding. Campbell opened the meeting with welcome and a poem. Margaret Varley conduct- ed a meaningful worship service with Dorothy Taylor playing the piano for the hymn -sing. The next regular meet- ing of the Hensall South Huron Agricultural Society will be held on Mon., Jan. 26 in the auditorium of the Hensall and District Community Centre at 7 HENSALL NEWS p.m. The annual meeting of the Hensall and Community Horticultural Society will be held on Thurs., Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., at Hensall United Church.
