LUCAN — The Lucan Irish came
back from a 3-0 deficit against the
Mitchell Hawks Dec. 28 in Lucan,
finishing in a 4-4 tie before drop-
ping a 4-3 game against
Thamesford Jan. 2.
Lucan has an 18-5-2-2 record,
three points behind the Exeter
Hawks for first in the division and
five behind the Hagersville Hawks
for first overall in the league.
After falling behind 3-0 against
Mitchell, Lucan erased the lead with
goals from Tom Burns, Matt Read
and a pair from Mark Flood before
the Hawks rallied for the tie.
Against Thamesford Friday night,
it was even through two periods,
tied 1-1 at the end of one and 2-2 at
the end of the second.
But two Thamesford goals in the
final period were enough to edge
Lucan by a 4-3 score.
Scoring in the losing effort for
Lucan were Tom Burns with a pair
and Dan Kudirka adding a single
marker.
The Irish have five pairs of broth-
ers in their lineup this season, with
Matt and Mark Read, Pat and Mark
Flood, Matt and Adam Thompson,
Mike and Tom Burns and Jeff and
Tyler Silver. Campbell said it makes
a difference to have that amount of
brothers playing together.
"You've got half the team that are
brothers so it makes the team
tighter. But they're all there on
their own merits and have worked
their way onto the team,"said
Campbell.
Lucan has three games this week,
with Mt. Brydges visiting tonight
(Wednesday). They visit Belmont
Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and
Lambeth Sunday at 7:45 p.m.
Notes...As of Jan. 4 Matt Read is
second in the league in scoring and
second in rookie scoring with 46
points...Dan Kudirka is second with
three shorthanded goals...Joe
Dobbie is first overall in wins with
16.
South Huron Bantams
Silverstick champions
KINCARDINE — The South Huron
Bantam Rep team advanced to the inter-
national silverstick tournament with a
perfect 5-0 record at the Kincardine
Silver Stick regional tournament Dec. 27-
30.
The Bantams opened the tournament
Dec. 27 with an 8-1 win over Clinton in
Lucknow Dec. 27.
Scott Varley led the attack with three
goals and an assist followed by Eric
Duenk and Chad Hackett with two goals
each. Jamie Hodge added a single with
Stephen Osgood earning the win in net.
South Huron kept rolling in their sec-
ond game against Twin Centre with a 6-1
victory.
The offence was well spread around
with Hackett getting two goals and sin-
gles coming from Troy Elder, Brent
Johns, Jared Green and David Reschke.
The Bantams didn't let up in their third
game Dec. 28 in Lucknow, crushing
Kincardine 11-2.
Johns and Hackett each fired a hat
trick while Elder and Ben Hodgins
picked up two each and Reschke one
goal.
The win put South Huron in the semifi-
nals against Walkerton where they
pulled out a tight 4-2 win on goals by
Elder, Hackett and two by Reschke to put
them in the finals against Mitchell Dec.
30 in Kincardine.
A 5-1 win on goals by Duenk, Elder,
Scott Varley and two by David Reschke
gave the tournament title to South Huron
and earned them a trip to the
International Silver Stick Jan. 22-25 in
Port Huron Michigan.

Lambeth and Mt. Brydges

EXETER — The Exeter
Hawks split a pair of
games on the weekend,
dropping a 5-3 decision
against the visiting
Lambeth Lancers Friday
night, before rebounding
in Mt. Brydges Jam 3 for a
6-3 win.
All the Hawks offence
against the Lancers came
from special teams, with a
pair of power play goals
and a shorthanded goal,
with Lambeth converting
a pair of power plays.
Exeter has a 20-5-2-1
record for 43 points, three
up on Lucan and two
behind Hagersville.
Exeter coach Dave
Revington described the
loss Friday night as the
Hawks' worst effort of the
season.
"We had lots of person-
nel but we just didn't have
a very good effort. It was-
n't just a couple of guys,
most had a bad night.
Hayter was our best play-
er and he was all alone. It
was just one of those
nights."
The Lancers were first
on the board in the open-
ing period, but a pair of
goals by Chad Deman
erased the lead and put
the Hawks in front.
Working a power play,
Deman teamed up with
Jeff Finkbeiner to tie the
game, before his unassist-
ed shorthanded effort at
6:36 put Exeter in front.
But Lambeth took the
lead again in the second
period with a pair of goals,
one with the man advan-
tage.
The Hawks pulled even
again early in the third
period with a power play
goal by Scott Davies,
SENIOR 'A'
vs Palmerston
Sat. Jan 10
8:30 p.m.
HENSALL ARENA
assisted by Justin Knee
and Shawn Sherwood.
But two goals by the visi-
tors in the last five min-
utes put them ahead to
stay as they took the 5-3
win.
Exeter went two for
three on the power play,
outshooting Lambeth 34-
28, who were two for five -
with the man advantage.
After a scoreless first
period in Mt. Brydges, it
opened up in the second
period with six goals
scored, four by the Hawks.
Two goals by Sherwood,
including a shorthanded
effort, in the first four
minutes of the period put
the Hawks up 2-0 before
the Bulldogs could cut the
lead in half at 12:25.
Daryl Bourne restored
the lead just 12 seconds
later but the Bulldogs took
advantage of a power play
to get back within one at
10:13.
Larry Northover made it
a two -goal lead again
before the period was
over.
The Hawks kept press-
ing in the third and
Sherwood completed his
hat trick midway through
the period to put the

Hawks up 5-2.
The Bulldogs tried to get
back in the game with a
power play goal with
seven minutes left, but
Knee put the game away
a minute later.
Picking up assists in the
win were Finkbeiner, Joe
Nesbitt and Knee with two
each, and singles from
Bourne, Henny Pfaff and
Justin LaPorte.
Exeter went one for
seven on the power play
and faced 11 Mt. Brydges
power plays.
Revington said it was a
better effort against the
Bulldogs. "We had a com-
plete turnaround and I
thought collectively we
were a lot better. They
were more involved and
we had a good start,
which is crucial on the
road."
Backing up Hayter on
the weekend was Bobby
Kremer, filling in for an
injured Kellen Hefley who
will be out for a couple of
weeks
The Hawks have a pair
of games this week with
Thamesford visiting
Friday night at 8:30 p.m.
and are in Port Stanley
Jan. 10 at 8:15 p.m.
