. CHILDREN'S AID ,SOCIETY OF
HURON COUNTY
The extension and increasingly
competent handling of the work of
the Childrens' Aid Society of Huron
County received most gratifying
'comments from the Department of
Public Welfare in their annual in-
spection. During the year the staff
was increased and numerous donat-
ions of childrens' clothing were
received from. County organizations.
Several Board members attended the
Annual 'Convention of Childrens'
Aid Societies in Toronto.
Fiftieth Anniversary -
Mr. and Mrs. lleniy Hoffinan. of
Dashwood observed their 50th wed-
ding Anniversary on Tuesday, Sept.'
27th. Mr. Hoffman was born in Hay
Township_ and has spent. his entire
life in this community, having been
mail carrier between Exeter, Dash-
wood and Grand Bend for 44 years.
On Sept. 27, 1899 he was united
in marriage with Margaret Stacey,
daughter of the late' Mr. anct Mrs.
Thos. Stacey, at the Presbyterian
Manse, Exeter; by. Rev. W. Martin.
The bridesmaid was Mrs. Herman
Zimmer, the former 'Melinda Willert
of Windsor, cousin of the bride. The
best man was the late Ernest Bender
cousin of the groom. .
Mr and .Mrs Hoffman have four
children, Mrs. Norman E v an s,
(Myrta) of Riclinzond Hill; Mrs. J.
Mervyn Tiernan (Alice) ; Mrs. J.
Kenneth McCrae (Gertrude) and one
son T. Harry, all of Dashwood.
There are nine grandchildren.
On :Sunday a family anmer was
held at the home of their son Harry.
The table. was centred with a four -
tired wedding cake, topped with a
tiny boqu.et of baby, mums. Rev. and
Mrs. Getz of Dashwood, Mr and Mrs
Russel Eckstein and Miss Lily Hoff-
man of London, and Miss Anna Hess
of Zurich, were additional guests.
On Tuesday Mr and Mrs. Hoffman
were at home to their friends and
relatives in the afternoon and even.

brief shower which prevailed throu
ghout tIt day, the fair was a decided
success,with entries .a record and
attendance up to standard.
. HAD COLORFUL, PARADE
Exeter,Fal1 Fair opened last Thurs-
day wibli a large parade which start-
ed froniL the south end of town to
the community park. Floats, decorat-
ed cars and bicycles took part in the
parade 4s, well as many school child-
ren and ;three bands. The parade was
led b'y Jan Ross, and Lee .and Barb-
ara Fairchild on their trick Palomino
horses. The fair was officially opened
by Thomas Pryde, Iduron M L.A..,
who w•ag,introduced by Garnet Hicks,
president of the Fair Board. Mr.
Pryde expressed "great pressure" at
opening the 1949 fair and said it
was to be bigger and better than
ever before. He said the number of
entries i* each class was outstanding
and a great credit was due to all
those who made this day possible.
Ben Lucas of London, was the mas-
ter of ceremonies at the grandstand
performance for the two nights.

, The. Communion Service in the
local Evangelical Church previously
announced for the past Sunday was
postponed for next Sunday, October
2nd, 9.45 a.m. This is World Com-
munion Sunday when for the ninth
consecutive year Christians an aro-
und the world have joined in this
world wide fellowship at the Lord's
Table on the first Sunday in Octob-
er each year.
On World Communion Sunday,
Oct. 2nd the Lord's Table will be
extended around the whole 'world
(25,000 miles, plus.) i.e. east and
west, north and south where ever
man is found. It is estimated that in
the United ,States alone about 28,-
000,000 • Protestant Communicants
will gather in their respective chur-
ches for• the Lord's Supper next
Sunday.: At least 38 Protestant de-
nominations in North America alone
will join in this great , growing co-
operative christian movement and it
is expected that every sincere chris-
tian will make sure to be in his
place.
A Bad Accident
Harry Rose Meets Death
A very sudden and tragic death
accident occurred last Wednesday
afternoon at the Khiva Corners in-
terr secion when Mr. Harry Rose of
Zurich was instantly killed, when in
collision with a car driven by Rev.
Harold Snell of Exeter, who had as
a passenger Exeter Town Clerk C.
V. Pickard, both of whom were bad-
ly shaken up and taken to the Lon-
don Hospital.. The two cars were
badly wrecked. Mr. Rose driving a
new car that had gone only a few
hundred miles. Mr. Rose r_ar been a
prominent gas station operator in
Zurich for some considerable years,
also having large gas trucks on the.
road supplying customers. He was
born and raised in Zurich, and It is
indeed a sad affair that he should
meet his end thus: The bereft fam-
ily have the sympathy of the entire
community. Survivors in the immed-
late family are, his wife, the former
Lorena Denonme, two sons, Keith
and Wallace and a daughter, Stella
all at home, one sister (Lylyan) Mrs.
Harold Kuntz, of Windsor. • The
funeral was held on Saturday after-
noon with a brief service at the home
followed by a public service in St.
Peter' Lutheran Church, with the
i'a-tor, Rev. E. W: Heimrich oitic-
ireting-, rntermont was:in St. Peter's
Cemeter •. The service being largely
attended by the many dear friends.
The pallbearers were Milford arid
Henry Schilbe, Kenneth Weber, Gar-
field Denonnne, Qrland Durand and
