day night, lightning struck the house
of the late Catherine Finkbeiner and
knocked off one of the chimneys and
otherwise damaged the roof and cor-
nish considerably.
Grand Bend
Brenner Garage Sold
The Brenner Garage at Grand
Bend has been •purchased by John
Manore. The Brenner garage is one
of the landmarks at Grand Bend and
was in the Brenner family for a great
many years. Mrs. Maurice Brenner
who disposed of the garage to Mr.
Marron, has built a fine new home
just south of the bridge.
Former Minister Marries
The marriage was solemnized in
London by Rev. D. Mortimer, of Rev
Angus McMillan Grant, formerly of
Grand Bend and Kippen United
church charges and recently induct-
ed minister of the Candachie charge,
and Miss Blanche Anderson, of Park
hill, daughter of Mrs. Anderson and
the late Donald Anderson. The bride
was attended by Mrs. Gordon Brown,
Bothwell and the groom was suppor-
ted by John Stewart, Lonaon. After
the cerentony they left on a motor
trip and after Sept. 1 will take up
residence at the United Chureh par-
sonage, Camlachie where Mr. 'Grant
has already taken his pastorate.
Second New Church Opens
The new Church of God, at Grand
Bend was officially opened at Grand
Bend, Sunday afternoon at 230 p.
m. Lunch and and supper were
served on the church lawns to many
people. The guest speaker w&. had
charge of the dedication serviee was
Rev, Harold Boyer, of St. Lois 'Mis.
who was accompanied by a group of
collared singers from Detroit and' Rev
James Massey, well known somiet.
Rev. Glen Beach, who has been pas-
tor of the congregation for the past
five years conducted the services.
All ,the work done ort the new
church, except the brick -laying and
masonry, was done by voluntary lab,
or. The main auditorium has a caper-
ity for 210 persons and the choir loft
seats 22. A emelt gallery with room
for about 40 circles the upper ,part
of the church. The basement has
provisions for 4 elassrooms and an
auditorium for about 110. The con-
gregation has been worshiping in a
Small frame church an te te-Line for
over forty years, about three 'mike
from the Bend. The fundation
laid last December arid the carpen-
try work begun in January. leferrib-

Mr and Mrs Clarence Hoffman
and son Robert a Galt were Sunday
visitors at the homes of their par-
ents and relatives.
Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Roppel have
returned home after holidaying at
the home of their daughter, Rev. and
Mrs. Ralph Waugh of Lambeth.
Mr. and Mrs. Jos, Craig, Mr. Fred
Turner of Goderieh, spent Sundae
with the latter's relatives, Nile and
Mrs. Harold Johnston.
Mr, Leo Mittleholtz, Mr. arra Mrs.
Robert Wilson' and two daughters,
all of Kitchener, were week -end vis-
itors at the home of the former's
brother, Mr and Mrs. Ted. Mittle-
holtz of town.
Mr and Mrs Bert Simpson,
John Wagner of 'Guelph; Mr. and
Mrs. Charles 'Boeseriberry of Kitch-
ener; Mrs. Amelia MeClymont, of
Kippen were Sunday guests at the
home of their nephew, Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Wagner.
OBITUARY
Late Julius Challet
Death came as a relief to the much
suffering of Julius Challet of the
Blue Water Highway, north of
Drysdale about two milee. He died
in the Clinton Public Hospital where
he has been in a very bad condition
since being struck by an auto on
the Highway last fall. Seemingly
his injuries were too serious for re-
eovery, as he was always a very
hardy and rolbust man, he was in his
64th year, and is survived by his
lone brother, Alex, who will indeed
+miss him. The body rested at the
T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home
in Dashwood, from where the funeral
took place on Monday, August 29 at
2 pan.. Interment followed in the
Bayfield cemetery. The departed
was a lifelong resident,. of the com-
munity.

Harry Hoy Chosen
A second nomination meeting was
held in the Town Hall, Hensall on
Monday evening last to fill the death
of Melvin Moir, killed in a car acci-
dent in July, resulting in three citiz-
ens being named, one or whom with-
drew. Harry Hoy and Richard E.
Shaddick ,permitted -their names to
stand, while Lorne A. ,Luker, also
nominated, withdrew Harry Hoy was
elected by acclamation. Mr. Hoy has
not lived in Hensall very long and Ls
starting a chicken farm, having pur•
chased a barn from his brother -In-law

Saturday, Rev. A. M. Stewart united
in marriage Iris Jeanne, daughter of
Mrs'. Pybus, Lorne Ave., London,and
the late Gordon Pybus, formerly of
Hensall, and the Parr Line, Hay, to
George Eliton Barringer, son of Mr
and Mrs A. W. Berringer of South
Brookfield, Nove Scotia. Maurice
Beckham provided a background of
wedding music during the service,
which took place in a. candlelit sett-
ing of palms, .ferns and pastel shades
of gladioli. Entering the church with
her uncle, Wm. Pybus, Exeter, the
bride was attractive in a traditional
gown of white slipper satin, fashion-
ed with pearl trimmed bertha collar
and full bouffant skirt falling Into a
slight train. A halo headdress with
pearls held her finger tip veil and
She carried a bouquet of yellow Glo-
ria Roses. The bride was, attended by
her two sisters Miss Margaret Pybus

in mauve taffeta, both gown a were
similar tight fitting bodice and bouff-
ant skirt and they wore matching
