Exeter — Four concessionaries op-
•rerating in Grand Bend appeared in
court here, July 21st, as the Attorn-
yey General's Dept. widened the scope
'of its drive to fully enforce the
lord's Day Act. The appearance of
the four men followed similar court
1ppearances of groups operating in
Fort Stanley, and issuing of sum -
ons to operators at Port Dover.
The four men who appeared in
icourt were John H. Lauman, operat-
,or of a bowling alley; Louis Ross, op-
erator of "Louies Three_Ring Circus"
F3. Odbert, operator ofm a roller
4kating "rink and Geo. Knapp, whose
lupe of business was not identified.
Magistrate D. E. Holmes, ICC. ad-
journed the case against Odbert one

ing fine in a Toronto hospital. after
her recent operation. Her daughter,
who stayed with her has returned

Mr and Mrs W. McBride of Exe-
ter and Mr and Mrs Elmore McBride
of Exeter visited relatives in this vic
inity recently.
Mr and Mrs H. Finlay were visited
by cousins from Kincardine and Mr.
and Mrs F. Bancroft with refattves
from Sinmcoe.
Mr. Penfold is somewhat improv-
ed from his recent illness.
Miss Phyllis McBride is on a mot-
or trip to the coast.
DRYSDALE
Mr and Mrs. John R. Rae and
family of Detroit are spending their
vacation at Drysdale.
Drysdale Indians invaded the Zur-
ich camp, Wed. Jly 20th and defeat-
ed the Zurich boys to the tune of
18 to 5. John Denomme, Drysdale's
baseball minded merchant, had his
boys collect 13 runs in the first stan-
za, due to snappy infield work and
heads -up ball. Pat Papineou pitched
Satchel Paige style. Battery for the
Indians: Denomme - Lobsinger, Pap-
ineau and Ducharme; Zurich, Miller
and Hays. Umpires, O'Brien and
Lobsinger.

Mrs. Charles Guenther
Mrs. Laura Emily Burk, widow of
the late Charles Guenther, who cried
at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Sydney Baker, near Dashwood, was

The body rested at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Baker, from where
a private funeral took place on Tu-
esday at 2 p.m. Rev. J. H. Getz oft-,
ciated and intermen followed in the
Exeter cemetery.

Mr.. Stevenson and Miss M. Car-
roll in company with Mr and Mrs
Ivory, Toronto, were guestsat the
home of Mrs. Wm. Hart. Mrs. Stev-
enson is remaining for a while.
Mr. Morley Cooper and Alex Mc-
Gregor of the Kippen district have
returned home after a pleasant trip
through the Eastern States.
The annual Sunday Schoor and
congregational picnic of Kippen and
Hillsgreen pastor charges was held
at Jowett's Grove, Bayfield, on July
15. Many interesting contests were
enjoyed and the day was topped off
with a delicious supper and a ball
game was played in the evening.

At Lions Convention
Mr and Mrs. Charles Scotchmer,
Mr and Mrs Jack Scotchmer, Jr., Mr
and Mrs Russeld Grainger attended
the big Lions International Conven-
tion at New York City, last week.
Sale Was Successful
The annual rummage sale under
the auspices of the Pioneer Park As_
sociation was held in the Town Hall
. Residents and summer visitors who
helped, made it a big success. A tidy
sum of money was raised which will
be applied to a fund for park impro-
vement and the prevention or eros-
ion at the property.
Fell From Tree Top
Little 6 -yr. old Walter Orr, son of
Mr and Mrs Wm. Orr was taken to
the Goderich Hospital suffering from
a double fracture of his left arm, in-
ternal injuries and pousible injuries
to his head and back. The accident
occurred when Walter fell from the
top of a tree which he had climbed
while his mother was picking berries
in their bush lot. She heard him fall
and rushed to find him injured. As
there was no one near, she carried
the lad half a mile to their home and
then went for help.

Suffers. Sunstroke
Gordon Troyer, 35, Hay Township
who. resides 2 miles west of Hensall
s slowly recuperating back to health
'n Clinton Hospital. Mr Troyer suff-
ered a sunstroke some 3 weeks ago
when the extreme heat was on while
cutting his hay. A week ago he con-
tracted double pneumonia Friday
afternoon of his neighbours cut and
stooked 39 acres of grain, four bin-
ders Were used in the process and the
men started at 1 p.m. and finished at

NEW FIRE ENGINE RATES
The regular Council meeting was
held in the Council Chambers on the , -
evening of July* li2th at 8 p.m. with
all members being present. Minutes
of the previous meeting, read and
adopted.
Councillor M. Moir reported re the
stage curtain stating that it was not
necessary to dry clean it but it sho-
uld be cleaned with a vacum and
sprayed.°

themselves. The company in quest-
ion comprised of three bachelors and
three of the fair sex. We are told
that the second bachelor of the trio.

HENSALL
Joyce Munn, twin daughter of Mrs
Beatrice Munn returned home on
Thursday from the War Memorial
Children's Hospital, London, where
she underwent an operation on her
leg. Joyce contacted polio 3 years a-
go and has worn a brace on her leg
ever since, and the operation was
performed to enable her to walk
without the aid of the brace. A polio
specialist was in charge.
Mr and Mrs. Morris Tudor and
little son of Vancouver, B. C., are
vi: iting with the formers parents

Mr and Mrs Case Troyer of Ayl-
mer, spent last Thursday with Mr.
Troyer's sister, Mrs. Geo. Hudson.
Mr. Troyer is C.N.R agent at Ayl-
mer.
