tle pranks performed by me and my
buddies; some were of interest, while
others were of a youthful nature. II
tried to gather ail the by -gone incid-
ents of over fifty years ago, and
give each of then) a summing die but
they were too many, so I satisfied
myself in taking pleasure to stop at;
the various parts of the ground
where I had performed some work
or acts. 'Travelling westward from
the highway to the lake bank, where
the first work was .performed in St.
Joseph by cutting down the slopes
of the bank to make a side -hill and
which is still there. This hill being
used by teamsters to haul stones, gra-
vel and and in the different parts of
the surveyed lots for building purp-
oses. I have been told this hill will
be repaired for private use. There
are still trees, relics of a one time
intended park, which were planted
in the early 11897. Tf the intelligent
mind of these scores of years gone
by had matured, today St. Joseph
would be one of the most brilliant
spots on the border of Lake Huron.

aMomements Iater by chance I met
Mr. N. A. Cantin, direct descendant
of the founder of St. FJoseph, and
after exchanging greetings we dec-
ided to take a walk about the grounds
Finding m.welf on the spot where the
first boarding house was opened and
which gave accomodation to over
a hundred workmen; on the grounds,
near by stood the up-to-date saw and
planing mill, doing hastily work to
provide workmen with the necessary
building material.
Today the old saw mill well is
r,;till iii good state of preservation;
amazed at it all, and pausing far a
moment, I was trying to bring back
clearer visions- of my boyhood days,
and of others who had taken part of
the sante work Joe deed as I had. Still
few of those old pals remain in this
community, while others have drifted
in other lands, and to say nothing of
,the many who have passed en in the
great beyond. Leaving all bygone in-
, cidents aside, we found ourselves on
the property along the lake front,
given by Mr. Cantin to his family,
for the purpose of building summer
cottages for themselves;. Already
,two are under construction and near-
ing completion. They being constr-
ucted

' and under the supervision of one of
the Cantin boys, Eugene, who is a
building contractor in Detroit. These
cottages will be equipped with all
modern designs and are meant to be
up to date in every way, with fire
place, electric power and water pies-•
sure, etc. Eugene Cantin has alr.
the electric devices to make work
easier and faster, such as doubler
head generating power for saws an&
as many as half dozen tools can be.
used at the same time. With just a
presto and all is cut and ready to
nail ion. Mr. Cantin has a staff of
inen from Detroit on this day, being, -
Pierre N. E. and Oliver, on one cot-
tage while the Messrs Frank Lefevre
Donald Collins and Jack Moore were
doing their part on the other. I am:
told a clottage is an ordinary day's:
work.
Drifting away from the scene ands
coming to the Blue Water Highway,
where of late a new up-to-date gar-
age was built, with refreshments
rooms in connection. But the most
important of all the scenes in my -
visit stands today on .the. west side
of the Highway where during oue of
the
'the visits of the sainted fere(Brother-
Andre), a mark was planted by him
and visible today. He said, even,
though the enterprize looked doom-
ed, aI1 is not lost. And .for us to say'
what might happen in the future
only time will tell. This ended my -
