Meeting held near Mildmay, on Sun-
day. A splendid attendance was
present. Rev. E. C. Chamberlain of
Ferndale,. Mich., was the guest spea-
ker, and:' T. Harry Hoffman of Dash-
wood was chorister and soloist. A-
bout a thousand people were on the
grounds in the afternoon.
Oldest Voter,
Mrs. Conrad Fuss', who celebrated
her 90th' birthday on June 14th, is
believed to be the oldest person in
this vicinity to go to the voting
booth_ on :Monday to cast her ballot,
and showing her loyalty to King and
Countryand marking her ballot for
whom she wished to vote. We are
proud .of 'such a fine spirit, even for
her advanced age. It is a splendid
example to younger people, to do
their part:in keeping up our country
and comirninity. Mrs. Fuss is visiting
at the home of her daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Hess of town.

We are in receipt of a lovely scen-
ic post card from !our neighbours,

peaked mountains, came through Y,e1-
lowston i' ional Park, saw a slide
in thRI.A.Os andniuny other -plates
of interest. Are enjoying a most
wonderful trip. Also visiting with
Mrs. Thiel's sister and other relatives
This helps to make the tour all the
more Tovely and interesting. They ex-
pect to be home in a few weeks. We
wish them a safe return.
HURON M.P., A SENATOR
" For some time there has been -i
rumor that Mr. W. H. Golding, of
Seaforth who has been very useful
in the House of Parliament, Ottawa,
has on Saturday been elevated to
the Upper House, as Senator. We
have no knowledge that this riding
has ever been honored before by pro-
ducing a Senator, and we congratu-
late Mra-Golding on his new appoint-
ment, which is usually for lifetime.
Mr. Golding had served in the Leg-
istature with special appointments of
work, have been prornited as -chair-
man plan House Committees.

On the evening of June 24th a
public meeting was held at the local
Township Hall for the purpose o•1
discussing a new site for the Hay
Township Memorial Community Cen-
tre and C. A. "Babe" Siebert Mem-
orial Arena. This meeting was open
to all who wished to express his or
her views on the new sites in ques-
tion; namely the Fair Ground and
the Lions Club outdoor rink. After
considerable discussion a motion was
made and seconded that the Lion,
Club outdoor rink site be tree place
where the Community Centre and
Arena be built. The motion was then
nettled by ballot. The result of this
vote showed that over double the
number of ballots were east in fav-
or of having the motion carried.
That is, that the new site for the
Community, Centre and Arena be the
Lions outdoor rink. It is the opinion
of the writer that the choice of sites
was a wise one, and that EVERY-
BODY should back the project to the
limit. A renewed drive for donati-
on:: will commence 'very shortly and
the rornmiitee in charge of this ven-
ture hopes that each and every per-
son contacted will be liberal with his
or her contribution. It has ;,eon re-
ported by canvassers that many peo-
p}t have said that they would con-
tribute much larger amounts provid-
ed the site is changed from the orig-
inal choice. That has now been done,
and it is the hope of the committee'
that those people do not Have a
w:, 00 el ingc of heart. Let's all get t:,-
, ,ht>,* ,. I thh really worthwhile pro-
•t. .,,ri will feel mighty proud in
years to come that you have had
a hand in making Community Centre
and Arena possible for the use and
enjoyment of both old and young
alike.
