HISTORICAL, .vr1.1.A ON THE
VILLAGE OF DASIIWOOD FOI,I
-
l4IERLY KNOWN AS FRIEDSBURG
The first settlers of this community
4 were Absolem and Noah Fried
(brothers) who settled here in 1853.
The village: derived its name Frieds-
burg after these men and was later
changed to Dashwood by post -office
officials. The name Dashwood. is chos-
en from a Das -In -The -Woods because
of this community being so thickly
covered with wood and timber.
It was incorporated as a police vill-
age on Janurary 9, 1900 with Henry
!Willett, George Kellerman and John
Hoffman a:; trustees.
People first settled here because of
the land being covered iwith bush.
The first industry was two saw -mills
and .a.grist mill owned and operated
by the Fried Brothers, the latter still.
in use aa a chopping mill owned and

and operated by • Thorrias Klumpp
and Sons, and a fleet of trucks
known as the+ Guenther Transport.
The first flat mill was owned by
Lindenfield, and built by Steinhagen
and Cook in 1885. The wagon shop
was owned by Julius Thon, 'black-

You CAN still find people who "don't believe in
banks" ... who keep their cash in old coffee pots,
or hide it in the woodpile, or carry it around.
But most folk nowadays keep their money in bank
accounts. They can get it whenever they want it;
and they can pay their bills by cheque. Canadians
have more than seven million such deposit accounts.
In terms of Canada's adult population, that makes it
practically unanimous.
The banks, in turn, know they must earn this confidence
by giving you the best service they know how.
Today you can take your account to any bank you choose.
And what is in your bank book is strictly between you
and your bank. It is your own private business.
State monopoly of banks
would wipe out competition and
would open your bank account
to the eye of the
state official.
