Had Narrow Escape.
While Mr. Harold Zehr was hauling
a load of manure out in the field of
the farm of Mr. Albert Erb, Bron-
son line, he put the spreader in gear
and watching it operate, in the mean
time the tractor which was pulling
the load toppled over 'in a pit and
pinned Harold underneath, being
some distance away from the build-
ings and help, he called, but no one
heard him until not' returning, Mr,
Erb went to the field to find out what
had happened, as his one foot was
pinned underneath the heavy tractor
and was unable to get loose, howev-
er on receiving help was soon taken
out and medical attention given. Mr
Zehr will be nursing a sore foot and
fingers of one hand, but time will
correct this and we trust he will soon
be as good as ever.
Womens' Institute
The regular meeting of the Zurich
Branch of the 'Women' Institute was
held in the Town Hall, Tuesday ev-
ening, 'May 10th. Mrs. Bryce Mack
was chairlady. The meeting opened
in the usual manner by singing the
Institute ode and repeating the Lord's
prayer in unison. A short sing song
followed with Mrs. Neeb at the
piano. At this time Mra. Newell
Geiger gave a splendid reading "The
Perfect Housewife." Mrs. Rudolph
Corriveau rendered two solos; Mrs.
Mack then called on Mrs. Oliver of
London who is associated with the
Free Press as Society Editor. Her
address proved of real interest, as
she explained in detail much of the
work .in connection with the publish-
ing of this paper. A guitar solo by
Mr. Clare Masse followed. Mrs.
Lloyd. Etue gave an appropriate read
ing on mothers. The business was
conducted by the president.
Hey gave a report on the District
Executive meeting held at the hoe
of Mrs. Bob Elgie, Kippen. Mmrs.
Leonard Erb gave a report of the
officers' conference held recently at
Guelph which she and Mrs. Newell
Geiger attended as delegates. Owing
to the lengthy business period Mrs.
Geiger's report was held over until
the next meeting, The roll call was
'answered by the name of a .famous
mother. A dainty lunch was served
by the Committee in charge.

PARDON our pointing ... with pride.
But it's an event when the number of bank workers
passes the 40,000 mark — as it did last year.
That's 65% more than before the war.
It's an event, first, because it shows the increased use
of Canadian bank services . .
More deposit accounts: now over seven million.
More funds: customers' deposits now reach nearly seven
billion dollars. More services: to farmers; to personal and
small-business borrowers; to war pensioners; to
people receiving Family Allowances.
It's an event, too, because of the kind of men and
women who have joined our ranks. Eager to get ahead,
they are finding in banking an interesting job, a
challenging career. They can tellyou how important
privacy in banking is to the Canadian way of doing things.
•
Going to your bank is not
like having to deal with a state
bureau—but that's how it would
be under state monopoly.
