Mrs. Gordon Howald enjoyed last
Friday with her friend, •Mrs. Melvin
Harlton at London and returned
home with her husband who had been
employed for the past winter months
as mason in that city, has left for
Listowell on Monday, where they are
busy with the mason work in the new
school, which was recently destroyed
by fire.
Had Surprize Party
A very happy and interesting sur -
prize party was enjoyed at the home
of Mrs. A. C. Meidinger, of Hensall,
on Sunday afternoon, when' her ro
latives and friends from Zurich went
to Hensall to celebrate Mrs. Meid-
inger's birthday. Atter a very en-
joyable afternoon, a lovely supper
was supplied by the visitors and
prepared by the guests, the table be,
ing centred with a suitable birthday
cake. Mrs. Meidinger who was coin-
pletely taken by surprise, greatly
thanked those present in remember-
ing her so appropriately. Those pre-
sent from town were: Mr and 2Vfrs,
Carl Thiel, Mr and Mrs Wm. Thiel,
Mrs. Jacob Meidinger, Mr and Mrs.

Many at Annual Meeting
There was a large attendance at
the annual meeting of the Hay
Municipal Telephone Meeting on
Tuesday.' afternoon. Mr. Reuben
Gates of Dashwood was appointed
as -chairman, and the Hay Township
Council, who manage the •Oompany,
gave what 'information they could.
A very lively meeting and discussion
was the result. Mr.' .McDonald, of
the Department of Municipal Tele-
phones, Toronto, was present and,
gave some very valuable advice. One
thing is sure, that if we wish to have
this System to survive, they, will re-
quire more money to run ._it, whir•h

There passed away at Clinton, on
Tuesday, February 8th'
1949, Daniel
Smith, formerly of the Zurich district
and one of the oldest per: ons in the
community. Death coming without
any signs of illness, as he was as
usual sitting on the edge of his bed
awaiting for his supper, and when it
was brought to him, he was found in
an unconscious condition, was in a
few minutes life had departed from
what was once a robust and rugged
Constitution, as he 'had been. ill very
little during his long span of tifetilne.
Born in Rainham Township, Heidi-
mand 'County, on April 21st, 1852,
being a son of the late Peter Schmidt

Farm .'Forum
The Unique Tarin Forum met at,'
the home of Mr and Mrs Delbt

nsportation. Freight costs cannot ; be

high existing costs. Tice next meeting
will be held at Mr Aaron Qestreich-
er's on February 28th with Mr. Stun
Oestreicher leading the discussion on
"Render Unto Ceasar." On Febru-
ary 21st our Forum will participats
in the joint meeting. Mr. Delbert
Geiger led a sing -song including a
quartette consisting of Leroy 0" -
Brien, Alvin Walper, Milton Oesch
and Delbert Geiger. The hostess
served a delicious lunch.

latives in the Reformed Mennonite
Cemetery, near New Hamburg, on
Friday, Febru.ry i lth, where a pub-
lic service was largely attended in
the adjoining ()Murch. Rev. Harvoy
Gampp officiated.

Evangelical Church News
The Albright Brotherhood of the
Zurich Evangelical Church held its
monthly meeting at the home of Mr
and Mrs J. W. Merner on Wednes•
day evening, Feb. 9th. Some 30 men
were present. The meeting opened
with a lively sing -song of gospel
choruses led by Ralph Krueger with
Mrs. H. G. Hess at the piano. 13111
O'Brien read an appropriate select-
ion of Scripture for devotions. The
pastor, Rev. H. E. Rclppel offered
prayer and then also introduced Rev
J. Dahtns, Crediton, as guest speaker
of the evening. The topgavoica verwas
"Work" and Mr. Dahtns y
challenging talk which was well re-
ceived and will be long remembered
by every sore present. Then after a
brief but happy social period, the
president, Delbert Geiger took charge
of the business. Several committers
for departmental work of the Bro-
therhood were appointed. A number
