Winter Seems to be Here The scenery has changed somewhat since our last issue when we have been visited with the snow flurries, and how beautiful they are, so pure and white. Although we cto not care for too many of them, as they mean a harder winter. We must be grate- ful to enjoy such a lovely Tall. Mr. Clayton 0. Smith of the B. W. High- way informs us that he had the plea- sure to. cultivate fifteen acres on his farm on Monday, December 6th, and the land worked up very' good and was in the best of cultivation, with such a nice fall and Christmas just around the corner. Seemingly the winter season will be shortered. It is to be hoped that- Old Man Winter will let down a bit this year anctnot give us too much snow. TO GET MODERN SERVICE Telephone users in Hensall will re- ceive improved service next spring when the exchange there is converted from "magneto' to common battery operation' under the new system, a light on the operator's switchboard will go on whenever a subscriber lifts his receiver. This signal repraces the hand -crank signal and informs the operator that someone on that line wishes to make a call. Similarly, when a call is completed, the oper- ator is automatically informed by the light, without the need for ringing off, so that the need for the hand - crank is completelly eliminated. The main benefits of the new system are faster handling of calls, quicker cl- earance of lines after conversations are finished and a reduction in the number of rings heard on party lines St. Joseph and Beaver Town Mr and Mrs Victor Fortier of St. To-enh were railed to the bedside of the farmer's father in Windsor, who passed away in that city the previous week.
