PASSES ON
The Christmas Spirit
Special services is being held in
most of the churches .on Christmas
Day or Christmas eve. The St. Pet-
er's Lutheran church are holding
their usual program on Wednesday
evening, and all are invited. Let
this' be one of the best Christmas
days we have had for a long time by
observing it in the right spirit.
Had Big Bingo Night
A very successful Bingo contest
was held in the Zurich town hall, un-
der the auspices of the Zurich Lions
,Club on Monday evening. The hall
being taxed to capacity, and a fine
time was enjoyed all evening. The
door prize turkey was won by Mrs.
`Marl Thiel, while Mr. Arnold Meaner
Acton the special turkey which weigh-
ed'about 35 pounds. Danay ducks
and geese were won by the more
lucky and enthusiastic players of
this game. This all goes for a happy
holiday. While some were less for-
tunate than 'others. • But keep your
chin.. up, your turn might come the
very next time to win the Iucky
lbbrd.
WEATHERMAN HOLDS KEY
',Railway officials as well as bus

senger traffic is expected to. reach or

and every available bus will be put

Dr. Robert Hobbs Taylor, 53 M.L.
A. for Huron died of a heart attack
-on Wednesday morning at his home
in • Dashwood. Dr. Taylor was born-
in
ornin London, a member of the Progres-
sive Conservative party and was
first elected to the Ontario Legislat-
ure in 1943. He had been in ill
health for some time. During the
March session of the' Legislature in
61194.5 he was, tak"n ill on the floor
of the House and removed to the
hospital. In June 1945 he conducted
his election campaign from his room
SANTA VISITS ZURICH
On the bright Saturday afternoon
our local town hall was filled to the
door, where children and parents
came from village and community to
meet and greet Dear Old Santa, af-
ter seeing several movie pictures,
being operated by Mr. Victor Dinnin
which were very much interesting.
A sing song of Christmas Carols
were enjoyed by all. Mr. John
Turkheim conducted the sing song
with very good spirits, Mrs. Turk-
heim accompanied at the piano.
Every -one tried to sing their very
best When. Santa appeared on the
platform with his grey red suit and
white whiskers, cane in hand and
sask on his back, the children sang
heartier than ever, several recitations
were requested from Santa, these
were cheerfully given by the pupils.
.Santa presented every child with a
pack of candies, nuts, etc., their eyes
soon peeped into the sacks to see
what was therein. Thanks a lot,
Santa. Merry Christmas!

Taylor, after 29 years of practice in
Dashwood, sold his practice and hos-
' pital to Dr. Donald B. Ferguson, of
London. At that time Dr. Taylor
I said: "From now on I am going to
take it easy."
Dr. Taylor graduated from the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario in 1916.
He was president of the War Serv-
ices Board in his district and was
well known for his charitable and
health work in his ,constituency.
Dr. Taylor was born Dec. Z0, 1893
and if he had lived until Saturday,
he would have been 54 years of age,
was educated in London public scho-
ols, graduating from Central Colleg-
iate. On Sept. 10, 1928, he was mar-
ried to Letta Ruth Guenther, of
Dashwood and a .daughter survives,
Anne Kathryn. The Dr. took post-
graduate courses in medicine and
surgery at New York Polclinic, Phil-
adelphia and Chicago hospitals and
at Victoria Hospital, London, Was
chairman of the Dashwood Public
School Board for 15 years, was Vill-
age trustee, among other promine+rt 1906 she was united with her now
offices. Surviving besides his widow
tr bereaved husband, Henry Howard,
who with the following survive: two
sons, Lorne and Lawrence of Len -
don; two daughters (Merle) Mrs.
-Orville Steini ach and (Luella) Mrs.
Kenneth Crisp, both also of Landon.
One brother, Mr. henry 1'lavbard of
Zurich, and three' sisters, :urs. L.
Kraft, Mrs. C. Hey and'\rrs. Michael
Meidinger all of Zurich. The fun-
eral service will be held from the
Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich, on

OBITUARY
'Mrs. Henry Howald Passes
Clara Flax'bard, beloved wife of
M,r. Henry Howald, well known res-
idents of Zurich and vicinity, died
at her home here on Monday morn-
ing, December 22nd, 1947 in her
64th year. Deceased had for some
years been ailing with a heart con-
dition, and she finally became so
weak that death claimed her mortal
body. A very cheerful and loving
neighbour, and much devoted to her
home and family, and will be greatly
missed by these. On January 9th,
