"MOM AND . DAD"
. ALACE FEATURE
Acclaimed .bar many universities,
colleges, national clubs and organiz-
ations, as wejl as officials of most all
churches, the new educational h.ygi-
ene attraction; "Mom and Dad" with
an all-star Hollywood cast, comes to
the Leavitt's Theatre, Exeter, for a
period of three days, starting Mon -
da -y, Sept. 8th.
This powerful modern-day drama
is clean, moral and educational. Its
story is so human it overflows with
good fun—yet, it is so humanly true
the film has its momenst when the
tears flow freely. It is a touching
and heart -tugging story of youth,
and the social problems of today.
Certainly, with its thousands of en-
doraments, its praise from millions,
who have witnessed it, "Mom and
Dad" could not rightfully be miscon-
strued by anyone as anything salac-
ious ar immortal, be cause it is
shown only to segregated audiences..
The producers explain this phase
of the policy of presentation with the
frank statement the picture contains
two modern and powerful medical
and health sequences dealing with
delicate subject matter. This fact, a-
long with the request of Elliot For-
bes, famous hygiene commentator
who appears on the stage in person,
necessitates segregated audiences.
Likewise the picture is presented to
only high school-age and older pat-
rons.
'Bill Beaudine, one of Hollywood's
best directors, handled the megaph-
Ip'hone job sad according to critics
certainly obtained wonderful perfor-
mances from each and every member
of the big east. Marcil s,ePicard,
famed 'French cameraman was behind
the lenses and iscredited with giving
the picture its beautiful lighting, ex-
celling photography and constantly
shifting angles. The story is a screen
original by Mildred Horn.
"Mom and Dad" is a simple human
story of every -day life in an average
American tows. Carl Blackburn,
popular biology teacher of the high
school, is the character around whom
the story weaves thru one interest-
ing episode after another.
There will be three performances
daily. Shows for women and high
school girls are scheduled for 2 p.m.
and 7 p.m. and shows for men only
at l) p.m. each evening. Men's tickets
start selling at 7.30 o'clock.
Had Pleasant Trip
Mr. and Mrs. George Thiel and
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Thiel arrived home safely
after a very interesting tour .to vis-
it at the home of the former's son,
Laird Thiel at Halifax, N.S. They
left for the Atlantic Coast on Aug-
ust 10th, motored to Kingston, on to
Montraeal city, also visited Mt. Roy-
al along the St. Lawrence River,
where at times the water was'nt more
than a few feet from the road, a
most beautiful scenery with its in-
land islands dotting the river at
many places. Reaching Quebec city
places of interest were visited, Chat-
eau Frontenac, the main hotel built
on a high cliff and overlooking both
the city and the St. Lawrence river.
Driving through old Quebec, as it is
sometimes called, the streets are so
narrow that cars cannot meet and
in many cases the people step from
their house doors onto the street
pavement. The store fronts in this
city are very ancient also other sur-
roundings. They crossed the river
by ferry to Levis, Que., and continu-
ed on the south shore of the river,
On the eastern side -of Quebec Prov-
ince they have very large houses and
barns and mostly dairy cattle, two
wheeled carte or a four wheeled
cart, both drawn by one horse. Then
on through to new Brunswick, to St.
John, Frede,,ricton and Monkton. The
Province of Nova Scotia was then
entered which is mostly rocky coun-
try along the beech and water's edge
Having the pleasure of motoring
through a stretch of road with bush
and rocks for 60 miles of travel be-
fore seeing any inhabitants. Amherst
and Truro and Lantz Siding were
places of importance, the latter be-
ing their destination and what a
happy family reunion when they ar-
rived at their son Laird's home.
Halifax was visited, this city is very
smoky, buildings are mostly frame
