Mrs, David Anderson, of Varna, died soon after being returned to her home. She was in her 75th year. She had spent the afternoon at the lakeside, and was resting after supper when striken. The former Ellen McAllister, she was a member of Varna United Church. Her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Turner, of Varna, and Miss Pearl at home, and a son George of Brucefield, survive. (Private .,funeral service was held on ,Saturda'ly and was conducted by Rev. R. Hern, of the Varna United Church. Interment followed in Baird's• Cemetery:. Mr. and Mrs. Armand Bedour, o Goderich; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Ove holt of Drysdale, and Miss Lorett Maloney of Seaforth, spent a wee -end at the Martyr's Shrine at Mi land. , Former Parish Driest Passes Rev. Joseph Albert Loiselle, for- mer parish priest of the Frencri Set- tlement Parish, died Tuesday last at the age of 80 years in hospital in Windsor following a lengthy illness. Father Loiselle, who had served in the priesthood of the R. C. Church for more than 50 years, was pastor of St. Joseph's Church, River Canard for some 35 years. After his recent retirement the aged priest had lived at the home of a niece, Mrs. Arthur Bezaire, in Tecumseh. A native of St. Philornene Que., Father Loiselle attended the Grand Seminary in Montreal and came to Wi.ncrsar as a young man. He spent nine years in the French Settlement palish and 6 years at a mission near this commun- ity. He went to River Canard 38 years ago, The funeral was held on Saturday morning last from St. Jos- eph' Church, Canard River, when Hie Excellency, the Most Rev. MeEwen. Master Ralph Poth was taken to Clinton Public Hospital where he is - receiving penicillin treatment for a serious infection resulting from an abcessed tooth. His many friends hope he will make a quick recovery. Bayfield Suffers Damages Extensive damage was done to the approach to the new bridge on the south side of the river by the tor- rential rains Saturday last at 'Bay- field. Most of the work done the previous few weeks was washed down to the river valley. The rain caused much damage in the district to crops gardens and several culverts were washed completely away. Rescued from Water Jack Tillman, London, experienced a dip in Bayfield River, which he did not enjoy, on Victoria Day. Had not Byrd Sturgeon, George Foote and Ritchie McDool been at the scene to rescue him, he might have been drowned. The incident occurred at the dock where the water is very deep. Mr. Tillman was in a row boat and when he moved to hand an out- board motor to his son, who was on the dock, the boat capsized. He was going under the -water for the third time when he managed to grab the upturned boat and clung to it until the three men got to him. GRAND. BEND, Work is progressing on the new pier. The cement top is ,being laid and when completed will add greatly to the efficiency of the piers. Mr. Harmon Gill is confined to his bed having suffered the fracture of three ribs in a fall, A daughter Joan Gilt fractured a bone in her wrist when she fell while roller skat- ing. Mr. GThl is just completing the f finishing touches .to a fine new cot- r- tage he is erecting in the Southcott a Pines. k- Grand Bend was the mecca of one d- of the largest week -end crowds over July 13th in history, to visit this pop- ular summer resort.. Hotels and cab- ing were all filled and parking space for cars during the day was almost impossible to find, and it looks as if some provision will have to be made for parking accomodation, some par- king lots would greatly help, with a moderate charge for parking would make such accomodation possible, and would also be a great convenience to the public. There have also been a goodly number of changes en Main Street during the year.
