Had Shower
A deligtful evening was spent at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Oesch, Goshen Line, north, on Mon-
day, June 2nd when friends and
neighbours gathered to honour their
daughter, Mae Marie, bride elect,
with a shower. Miss Doreen McOlin-
chey read the address and Mrs. Mil-
ton. Pollock presented Mae wfth a
sum of money and some gifts to
which she responded with a fitting
reply of thanks. Later a delicious
lunch was .served.
Surprise. Anniversary.
A very enjoyable 'evening was
spent on Saturday night at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martindale,
north of Zurich, when relatives and
friends gathered there- to a surpris-
ed wedding anniversary reception for
the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Oscar Ducharme, who celebrated
their forty-second wedding anniver-
sary The evening was spent in danc-
ing and playing cards. Later a well
filled basket of lovely gifts was set
before the bride and :groom of forty-
two years ago. Paul Ducharme, the
eldest son, read the address and a
fitting reply was made .by both Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Ducharme. A very
delicious lunch was then served.
A Real .Deluge
Just are we •were thinking we are
about getting out of the wet season
last week, shortly after the noon hour
on Saturday, it just seemed the win-
dows of Heaven opened, as the good
book tells us of the flood many years
ago, and it rained like we .never saw
it rain before. For hours it just'pour-
ed down. Water ran racross the co-
untry roa.ds in very, many places, in
fact many places where it has never
before ran thus. And as a conse-
quence our gardens as well as the
field crops received the :biggest dren-
ching in our time. The ground will
in most places now be baked and
hard for the summer, and by the
looks of the skies this Wednesday
noon, rain .is not far off again, but
we surely are not looking for anoth-
er soaker like what we got,
CONTROLS LIFTED
Ottawa — As anticipated, the
Government announced the removal
of price ceilings and rationing re-
strictions from a list of foods, goods
and metals. Major item among the
foods is butter, which no longer is
rationed, .I3utter too is freed of
'price controls as are cheese, evapor-
ated milk and ice cream. L,etationed'
also are honey and all jams, jellies
and marmalade• All these no longer
come under price restrictions with
the exception of any jam containing
strawberries or raspberries. Another
important change is end of controls
on meals and refreshments to all
public eating places,

READY MONEY FOR FARM
IMPROVEMENT
Simplified Financing Helps Go -Ahead
Farmers
Ready Money to a farmer can
mean the difference between being
really successful in his enterprise, or
just getting by — it can selp him
put his improvement •plans into op-
eration making his faun more pro-
ductive and more profitable.
Many farmers short of ready cash,
have found that a Bonk of Montreal
loan has made improvements •a simple
matter
Some of the uses to which B of M
Farm Improvement Loans have been
put include:
new improved agricultural im-
plements and equipment; electrical
aids, washing machines, cream
separators, refrigeration pumps,
motors, mlking machines; install-
ation of lighting, heating, and
water systems; farm buildings, re-
pairs and extensions; fencing,
drainage and Lancl improvement;
new livestock for building up the
herd.
if a lack of read money is hin-
dering your farm improvement plans
call on Mr, Sewell, local manager o f
the Bank of Montreal, You will find
that he knows and understands the
farmer's problems. His attitude on
farm credit is; "When you ask for a
loan at the B of M, you do not ask
a favour."
