ENJOYABLE TRIP TO 'FLORIDA Mr. G. S. Howard of Exeter, and daughter, Miss Evelyn, of Toronto, together with Mr. and Mrs. George R. Hess, of Hensall, returned Thurs- day last from a most enjoyable trip to Florida. The route followed was through the central States, and two places where President Lincoln had lived. They visited the .Mammoth Cave, Ky., where they walked thr- ough the subterraniean cavernt, saw all the strange rock [formations and had a boatride on a lake over a hundred feet underground. Follow- ing south through Nashville, Tenn. and Atlanta, Ga., to Florida where orange and ,graptfruit groves can be seen for miles and miles. An unus- ual fact is that the blossom and fruit appear on the trees at the same time. The fallen fruit lies on' the ground as apples do here and are plowed in- to the ground. They visited St. Pet- ersburg and Tampa. Then crossing the Everglades in Southern Florida by the Tamiami Trail to Miama. A canal goes along the road and it was filled with tropical plants and anim- als. From Miami where they stayed a few days, they went to Key West, the most southerly point of 13. S.. The longest of these bridges crossed was 7 miles, It was a very scenic drive with the A.tlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. In many States the highways were made beautiful by planting. flowers and shrubs. Well equipped roadside picnic places ,added to the conveni- ence of the tourist.
