Some oaf f' e loosl butchers in Goderich offered the suggestion as a solution to slaughter -house prob- lems encountered at the lakeside town. 'Clinton was mentioned as a possible site for the proposed slau- ghtering (point. HAD A BIG CROWD An attendance of close to 700 fans turned out to the Dashwood Baseball Park, Saturday afternoon to witness the opening game of the Huron (Perth League. Dr. R. Hobbs Taylor, M.L.A., for South Huron, was on the mound for the opening ceremonies with Elmer Bell of Exeter at the bat. Mr. Bell's batting average•is still 1000 as Doe's pitch went behind him when the curve failed to break. In the game itself the Dashwood Tigers put up quite a 'battle before bowing to the Lucan Irish 18-15 in a free scoringcontest. Considering the fact, this is the first time in more than 20 years that Dashwood has fielded a hardball team, the boys turned in a good gauge and will improve every time out. After scoring once in the first in- ning Lucan jumped into a command- ing lead in the third frame on .Chow - en's double with the bases loaded and •corn, bined four singles with three errors for five •counters in the fourth Dashwood picked up singl tallies in the first and third, added three in the sixth on two walks, a double by C. Wein and G. Wein's single and three more in the seventh chiefly due to Hudson's wildness. The Tigers broke loose in the Sth combining five singles and Besterd's double with the bases jammed to score seven runs and put them in the lead 15-2. This lead was short lived as Lucan came back with six in the top of the ninth to cinch the verdict. N.. Durr and Heideman sharing the Dashwood pitching duties, pitched fairly well striking out 11 batters, but tired in the late innings. Bill Chowen, starting for Lucan pitched good bald for six ,.innings, was relieved by veteran Cy. Hudson but came (back in the eigth when Hudson was' hard hit. Chowen injur- pd his leg a few minutes later and Hearn came in to finish the game and gained credit for the victory. In a preliminary girls game the MILT.
