How 'sweet their memories. still
But death has left a loneliness
The world can never, fill.
.—Sadly missed by his wife and sons
Nonan. and Len, his wife arid grand-
daughter, Marjorie. '
—AN 'ODE TO TOWNSMEN --
Poor Father Time is in distress
His life is at the Stake --
The townsmen say "Go Faster!”
The farmers "We 'like the .rate!'
What avails for him to do?
Ah! that is the burning question.
The townsmen say "Our Gardens"—
But that's •a mere suggestion.
For when outside in the hay,
The farmer works much harder;
Who passes on his way to the beach
But the "supposed -to -he gardener!

Thursday of this week. WO well as
a goodly number of -Clergymen. The
meals are being served in the church
basement, and we are told they are
good. Just how many of thesefair
sex are present we don't know but'
it most be well over the hundred'
mark, and then there are many more
visitors present.
What shall we farmers do then—
But fight for justice cause.
Why need we any Government?
If you not the law abide?
Why not 'have you townsmen
All the laws decide'?
If townsmen want another hour
We say "Go to the East-"
There you will see the sun full soon-
er
And leave us all in peace.
Perhaps you need the farmer nod„
Well, time will tell—we say—
Fol you may in your hovels sit
While 'we
Perhaps we need you not—we say—
The farmers have resources
At home is all their own food grown
By all the farmers' forces.
Ah! 'tis he the 'back -bone of our
land—
'Tis he who grows the food— '
`Tis he who feeds the whole world
'round—
Now who could do more good?
No - not the townsmen - no, not he!
What does he do but sit—
And wait for farmers to do •some
buying
So he can sit and sit.
His work is for has own right hand
Nor does he care for the tiller.
All he wants from him is the dough'
And then calls him the`Crazy' Feller'
They can have that old Standard
time
Those slow old country hicks
They want to sleep an hour more
'Tis he the one who kicks.
That's your -opinion we all know—
But what about your own wee town.
Is it not built upon the sticks?
.A' slight north wind could blow
it
down.
Had Birthday Party
A happy birthday party was held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Miller, 14th Concession, Hay, on
Friday, May 23rd, when about thirty
fives relatives and friends gathered at
their home in honour of Dorothy's
18th birthday. An enjoyable even-
ing was spent in dancing and play-
ing euchre. A well known orchestra
provided the music and all enjoyed
the most rawly time. Lovely gifts
were, received by her, from the many
friends and relatives. A very nice
luncheon was served with eighteen
lighted candles on the Birthday Cake
After lunch all sang songs,,the clos-
ing songs being "You'll Get Used Ta
It," and "'Happy Birthday To You".
A most enjoyable time was spent by -

.W,e know you want to sit around
.And watch ambitious farmer work ---
Come driving past awaving so
"On Standard Time, you are, you
jerk!"
The farmer is too humble;
Nor would he such words say ---
He feels his duty in the fields
A -loading up the hay.
'pat hour at the beach is nice
That we can't .. deny
But that was not your. reason
For saying "Daylight Time! Hi_ Hit
No one wants to take the blame,
For inaugurating Daylight Time,.
But deep, in heart they want it--and--
For defense to the school they
What happens then? Yes we all

carded.
And what a great confusion
About this great old time,
The teacher is there at eight o'clock -
The pupils there at nine.

Let's :sty with Standard Time!
For it is on our statute books
