'THIEL In Police Court Goderieh — For exceeding the hog slaughtering quota, Harvey McCall - inn, of Goderich, was fined $25 and costs in Magistrate's Court last Thu- rsday. Harold Ashton of Goderich, pleaded not guilty to a charge of un- lawfully assaulting Miss Evelyn Spr- oule of Goderich. The case was ad- journed for a week and bail was set at $200. 'Appearing in Court last week, Charles Durnin of Goderich, pleaded not guilty to a charge of. breaking and entering the cottage of Father Hill, which cottage is owned by Miss Julia Lewis. Bail was set at $200. At that time the case was adjourned until today, when it was again adjourned for two weeks. fr'. R. Hawkins of Goderich, was fined $10 and costs when he pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving on No: 4 highway, south of Clinton. Miscellaneous Shower On Friday afternoon a very happy event took place at the home of Mr and Mrs. Wilfred Weitio, Parr Line, when about seventy neighbours and relatives gathered in honor of Miss Morjorie Datars (ibride elect) to pre- sent her with a miscellaneous shower, the address was read by Mrs. Orland Reichert. The gifts were presented in two little decorated wagons drawn by little Marlene MVIcLachan, Marion Deters, Kenneth Reichert. They were all very lovely and useful. Marjorie replied with many thanks for every- thing in every way. Part of the af- ternoon's program was a mock wedd- ing. This created much fun and laughter. The pastor was Miss Ag- nes Love, and Miss Ellen Love was chosen as the bride who • appeared very charming in her attractive at- tire. The groom, Mrs. Orland Rei- chert took her place very bravely. The couple was a ppor'ted by Miss Shirley Adkins as bridesmaid and Mrs. Wm. M4Lachan as best man. The father, Mrs. John. Baker who hesitated very much before concert- ing to give the slaughter in marriage aroused many cheers from those pre- sent. The painist was Mrs. B. Walk- er. A delicious lunch was served and a happy time enjoyed, wishing the bride much joy and happiness for her future life. Hensall Council Mirwten The regular meeting of the Village Council was held on the eve. of Sept. 3rd with all members being present. Minutes of the last regular and special meetings were •-read and ad- opted. eared as a Fred Sniallacom'be app para delegate from the Community Board asking for a grant for the same and suggested that the Boara erect the fence instead of the Council. Motion, that we grant Brie Park Board $300 and the Board erect the new fence. Dr. Godard, M.O.H. appeared and reported as to the tests of the water taken at the springs also at the Rink for hardness and stated that he would take other tests also. R. J. Thomas Meyers is inviting all the ladies in the community to her home 'on Friday afternoon, Septem- ber l2'0th from three until six o'clock in Honor of her sister-in-law, Mrs. David Meyer.s, English War Bride, who has come to live in our vicinity. Attended Birthday Party • Mrs. T. L. Williams, Mr. Calvin. Williams of town, and Mr. Orville Ehnes. of Detroit, attended a birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Ehnes of Bright, (nee Eva Williams. Many relatives gathered at their home in honor of Mr. Ehnes' birthday. A real family reunion took pace and a very lovely time .was spent, wishing the couple many more happy .occasions of this nature. Lions Club News •'Our lacal Lions are busy the next week or so, Wednesday and Thursday nights presenting their minstrel show at Listowel on Monday night will be Ladies' Night at Grand Bend, then on. Tuesday night, Fair night they will Present their minstrel show in the Town Hall, Zurich. ZURICH FALL PAM Next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23rd and 24th are the dates of the Anhual Zurich Fall Fair, and one of Zurich's bigger days of the year. A great deal of effort has been put forth by the managernen'; or the Board to make this a big success. Good prizes are being offered in the v ar�ious departments which will bring (int many entries. The Parse races alone is worth your admission fee. .iss' the ball game at 2 p.m., th4 judging of live stock and all the various things that are .so interesting. Then to complete the day stay over for the entertainment in the town hall when the Minstrel Show, pres- ented by the Zurich Lions Club will be presented. This show r -as won a big name for itself. If you have seen it before, be sure and see it a- gain, with many new added jokes that will make you laugh for hours afterwards. Then following this is the usual public dance sponsored by the Society, as well as the Concert put on by the Minstrels. ` Late Samuel Carlile Houston Samuel Carlile Houston passed a- way in Clinton Hospital on Tuesday September 1711i, 1946, in his 90th year. He -was born near Ottawa and later moved to Stanley Township, where he worked as a framer for a number of years, later he farmed. He retired in Bayfield a number of years ago. Surviving are two sons, Carlile. in Stanley Township; John A. at Fir Mountain., Sask., and one sister, Mrs. Moran at London. A private funeral service will be held from Itis late home in Bayfield, on Thursday at 2 p.m. Followed by a public service from the Presbyterian Church at 2.30. Interment will be in Bayfield Cemetery. Rev. Lane will officiate. HYMENEAL JONES—HAI ST Zion Exangelical church, Crediton, was the setting for an early autumn wedding at high noon on Saturday, Sept. 7th, when Rev. M. E. Reuber united in marriage Helen Louise, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Heist of Crediton, and Mr. Lloyd Edwin Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, of Exeter.The Chancel was banked with blended gladioli and other autumn flowers. The bride was given- in marriage by her father, entered the church to the strains of the Wedding march play- ed bV the bride's aunt, Mrs. E. Fah- ner. The bride wearing a floor -length white gown. A reception followed at the home of the bride's parents wh- ere a turkey dinner was served to some 75 guests. Mrs. Hoist received, assisted by Mrs. Janes. Serving were cousins of the bride and groom.. A- mid showers of confetti Mr. and Mrs Jones left on a honeymoon trip foe Niagara and points south. The bride donned a turquoise wool dress with a dusty rose coat and with brown ac- regsories. On their return they will on the groom's farm.
