HAY COUNCIL
The Council of the Township of
Hay met in the Township Hall, Zurich
on August 6th at 8 p.m. at which
time the following business was
transacted. The following correspon-
dence was presented: Letter, Re:
Vernon Schatz, trimming - trees;
Drainage Referee's reply re: Logan
Drain appeal: Nlunicipal World re:
1947 assessment; J. N. Cantin's let-
ter of July 8th, 1946 re: :St. Joseph
lots. The following motions were then
passed:
That application be made to the
Department of Highways for initial
payment of the 1946 Road Subsidy..
That Henry Lawrence be paid his
account on the Tuckey Drain upon
T. R. Patterson's approval.
That the budget for the year 1946
be 'adopted and that the rates be
confirmed by By-law. Clerk to pro-
ceed to complete the 1946 Collect-
or's Roll.
That the telephone account re:
Sprule Currie be forwarded and that
it be paid by Aug. ;20th 1946 4or tel-
ephone service be discontinued.
That the letter as received from
Vernon Schatz regarding the trimm-
ing of his ornamental shade trees be
filed.
That approval. from the Dept. of
Highways be obtained to further sub-
sidize the Hay Township Row: expen-
diture to the amount of $10,000.00
for 1946.
That the Reeve, William Haugh be
appointed to represent Hay "rownship
on the Aux Sables River Conservat-
ion Authority meeting to be held. in
Parkhill, Aug. 14, 1946, and at- all
subsequent meetings, appointment to
be confiermed by by-law.
That the account from the Tucker
-
smith Tele. System for moving tele
phone lines on the second 'Concess.
ion of Hay Twp: for $9.30 be filed
until contract with said system is
referred to.
That upon motion passed by the
Police Trustees of the Villages of
Dashwood and Zurich the foltowing
rates be levied respectively for 1946
as follows: Zurich 10 mills and Dash-
wood 15 mills.
That the Engineer's Report on the
Logan Drain as received from the
Clerk of Stanley on June 2.3rd 1945
and considered at a special meeting
on July 7th 1945 be adapted and the
Clerk be authorized to have sufficient
bylaws printed and served on all
assessed persons. Court of Revision
to be held on Sept. 3, 1946 az 3 p.m.
in the Township Hall, Zurich.

McBride Reunion
The McBride reunion was field at
Jowett's Grove, Bayfield and over
1.00 sat down to a sumptuous picnic
supper. Friends were present from
Regina, London, Windsor and Detroit
including the many relatives from
the nearby district. Mrs. Albert
Schnell from Regina being present
for the occasion.
MINISTER PASSES
Rev. John H. Grenzebach, .retired
Evangelical Ghurch minister, died at
his home in Elmira on August 16th,
of a heart attack, at the age of 86
years. He is survived by his wife,
two sons and four daughters. He
was a former minister of Calvary
Evangelical church, Dashwood.
HAD BAND TATTOO
Goderich-With perfect weather,
and under a canopy of stars, the (band
tattoo and fireworks display at Agric-
ultural Park last Wednesday night
sponsored by the Goderich Lions
Club, was a brilliant success. Some
3,000 .attended and thoroughly enjoy-
ed the evening's program. Six bands
paraded from the Square.

DISPOSES OF BUSINESS
Lennis Regier has disposed of
his cleaning and pressing business in
Exeter and in future it will be known
as the Zip Service, situated in
Wright's Store. The new proprietors
are Fit. Lieut. Earl F. Reid, DFC.,
and Mr. Rayinond B. Coutanche. Flt.
Lt. Reid is at present stationed at
the' Radio School at Clinton. His
home is. in Montreal.
New Sidewalks
Some of our cement sidewalks are
being renewed and needless to say
they surely were needed, before some
one should. be tripped and receive in-
furkv in a fall. The work is being
Ija11 done by the Corriveau
rothers, and 'with a little improve-
ments every year will keep these
walks in good condition, This also
applies to our own properties.
MAN ATTEND OPENING
Hensall's floodlit ball park was op-
ened Wednesday nigh last when a
crowd of over 2,000 people saw the
official ceremonies and watched Lon-
don Sapphires defeat Stratford Kro-
ehlers 10-6 in an exciting softball

and pointed out that it was the first •
floodlit ball park in the county. Mrs
Geo. Smale, Hensall, held the lucky
ticket in a raffle, winning a pressure
cooker. The ticket was sold by John 1
Henderson. The program, which was •
sponsored by the Chamber or Com- !
merge, included games and other
attractions. Installed in order that -
games could be played after work,
the lights made a particularly pleas
ling appearance. Groups wisanig to
use the park may obtain information
from J. A. Paterson.

The Zurich Ball team, sponsored
by) the Zurich Lions came out second
best on Monday night's playoff game
with Hensall when Jack Tudor of
Hensall tossed a neat three -hit game
and fanned 15 batters, winning by
a 6-3 margin over Zurich at the
Hensall diamond. Hensall will now
meet Clinton for the final group
championship. One of the largest
crowds of the season was on hand
for the game. Balfour and Tudor both
slammed out triples for Hensall,
while Yungblut had a double for
Zurich.

Late Samson Colosky
Samson Colosky, native of Hay
Township, and well known through-
out this district, died on Thursday at
the home of his niece, Mrs. John
Albrecht in Zurich where he had re-
sided for the past year. He had also
made his home with another niece,
Mrs. Wes. Wc'fe. in Dashwood, be-
fore going -to Zurich. He was an his
89th year and was the last member'
of the family. He was 'a member of
the Evangelical Church in Dashwood
The body was resting at the T. Harry
Hoffman funeral home in Dashwood,
from where the funeral took place
Sundav at 2 o'clock, pan. with
Rev., C. B. Ileckendorn officiating.
