Mr. Stuart Stover of Chatham,
was a holiday 'visitor with his wife,
Mrs. Stover at the home of her par-

Master Robert Westlake, aged four
years and son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Westlake of Zurich,' .who with his
parents after attending the St Peter's
Lutheran Christmas program in which
Robert took part in the singing, mot-
ored to the home.of his grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haberer, Blind
Line to spend the rest of the evening
in opening their gifts, took suddenly
Dr, .O'Dwyer was called but was
unable to attend, when Dr. A. J.
Addison of Clinton was called and
ordered the patient to the aespitalat
once. Icy road conditions made it
very difficult for the snow plow to
make way. The operation was perfor-
med soon after the arrival at the Clin-
ton hospital by Dr, Oak, which was
successful. Robert is now home and
Progressing as well as could be ex-
pected,

Mack—Grant
A quiet wedding took place in the
Evangelical church on Saturday ev-
ening at 7.80 ,on December 27th,
when Rec. C. B, Heckendorn united
in Holy Weddlock, Bryce Mack of
Crediton and Miss Elizabeth Grant,
daughter of Rev. Grant of Bothwell,
and a member of the staff of the
Bank of Montreal, Zurich. They
were attended by Miss Ellen Frem-
lin of Clinton and Mr, Fred Brown
of Zurich, The Herald joins their
many friends in extending congratu-
lations.

A very happy event took place at
St. Boniface R. C. Church, Zurich,
at 8 o'clock on Thursday morning,
December 27th, when Father Lucier
united in Holy Weddlock, .James
Leonard Rau, son of Mrs. Rau and
the late John P. Rau of Zurich, to
Miss Magdolen Kul of Forest and
formerly of Saskatchewan, The bride
was gowned in a white flour length
crepe frock with silver trimmings
and her veil fell softly ever her
shoulders, carrying a bouquet of
white mums and red carnations. They
were attended by the groom's sister,
Aim M. Heys® and brother, Mr. Gor-

breakfast dinner was served at the
home of .the groom's mother, They

Gunner Vincent Smith has- return-
ed home after ,being overseas for
nearly four years of active service
and is home at the residence of his
foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Foster. His many friends are indeed
pleased to see him home again, all
well and in good condition.
Mr. Paul Hess and .Miss Sonnia
Riley of Toronto were Christmas
visitors at the home of the former's
parents. Dr. Fred W. Hess and Miss
Eleanor Erwin of Toronto; Mr.
Quimby Hess and Miss Isobel Rob-
ertson of Kapuskasing, enjoyed New'
Years' vacation at the Home of their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew F.
Hess.
•"Attends Funeral
Mr. Calvin Williams has returned
home after attending the funeral of
his -brother-in-law, Rev. Whiteside:
at Manilla, Ont., who died at the
age of 74 years. He leaves his sor-
rowing wife (nee Laura Williams of
Zurich) and a grown up family. Mr.
Whitesides was a minister of the
United Church of Canada.
THE NOMINATION
The nomination on Monday in the
Zurich town hall was attended by a
large crowd. Much interest was foc-
used on the question of a new court
house. at Goderich. A demand vote
was taken at the meeting by the
ratepayers present and they voiced
their opposition to the idea of re-
placing the present ,County Court
House with a new structure. Vote
carried. Two names were nominates
for reeve, William Haugh and George
Armstrong, the former quaterying, for
Councillors the last year's bard were
nominated and declared elected as
follows; Erwin Willert, .Sam Hend-
rick, Oscar Klapp and Earl ,Ctunp-
bell. In the evening nomination for
Police Trustee for the P.V. of Zur-
ich were held. The three old trustees
M. Sehilbe, T. C. Haberer and D.
I3odard we re -nominated as well as
six new names; C. Deters, 0. Wit-
mer, Ed. Gascho, S. 1`topp, G. ?Koeh-
ler, E. E. Weido. Those that quali-
fied were; M. Schilbe, D. Bedard and
0. Witmer, which will be the 1046
Board.
