Mr. and Mrs. Leonard 1senomrne of Windsor were visitors with friends in these parts the past week. Mru Jules Gonriveau of Detroit, called on friends in this vicinity the past week. Pte. Ward Thiel of the Armed Fox- ccs was a visitor in town over the week -end. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wagner, and two children are holidaying at the Wagner home in town. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Oesch are camping a few weeks at Ducha me's Lesort, at the lake. IVIr. and Mrs. Russell Pitt of Hyde Parke were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Thiel. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jeffrey and nephew of Detroit spent a few days with the former's mother, Mrs. 'C. Ayotte of town. Miss Patricia O'Dwyer and girl friend, Miss K. McAlpin, both nurses - in -training at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, visited at the former's home Dr. and Mrs. P. J. O'Dwyer.. The local Owl's Club, their wives, were entertained one evening last at Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Hess' cot- tage in the Pinery. A good time was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Frank of Kit- chener, Mrs. A. G. Edighoffer who are at present camping at Grand Bend visited in town the beginning of this week. The Zurich Lions Club are happy to announce that they have been successful in obtaining the services of the Centralia Airport Band for their First Annual Frolic which will be held on August 29th. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Gemming, of Fresno, California, are visiting with Mrs. Gemming's parents, Mr. and Mrs W. J. Johnston at the Dominion House. Mr. Gemming is taking ad- vanced studies in radio work in Fres- no, and they are here on vacation. Friends of Mrs. Rachael Denomm.e who is at present at Windsor, will be pleased to learn that she was able to leave the hospital, after suffering a fall which caused a hip fracture. L. Snaith, also visited other places of interest the past four weeks. Farmers are very busy thete-•days with the heavy crop of wheat, of which some is very badly down and tangled up. Threshing operations have also commenced, and the baa' ley crop is also about ready to he cut. Ideal weather has prevailed for harvesting, but a nice shower of rain would be welcome in most cases for the growth of later crops and grass. O'Brien and daughter, Miss Olive, were week -end visitors in Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fowlie of Lon- don., Mrs. Lawrie and Miss Ethel Fowlie of Bayfield were Monday vis- itors with their sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Koehler. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence. Howald, and son. Eric, Miss Jane Howald, all of London had a very enjoyable visit at the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Howald over the week -end. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cook and dau- ghter Patricia and Mrs. F. Cook; Mrs. Ed. Brenner and child all of Kitchener are spending their vacation at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs John Brenner. Miss Grace Paisley of Stouffville, has returned home after a pleasant visit with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Siebert. Mrs. 'Siebert and; baby Gail, accompanied Miss Paisley to Sltouffville where they will spend a few day's. This seems rather an unusual sum- mer as there is no fruit on the trees which usually at this time are well laden with their annual harvest. The local beekeepers advise. us that there will also be rro honey this year, and what a disappoint to those who are inclined to have a sweet tooth. How- ever, there will lots of good vegeta- ion, wheat, and plenty of meat, re- gardless if some of it will be ration- ed. Surely, we are in a tend of plenty, if we could only realise it at all times. Get Sunday's Detroit Times. GRAND BEND Going to Pacific ,Sgdn. Ldr. Alvin Bossenberry, youngest son of 1VIr. and Mrs. Bruce Bossenberry, of Grand Bend recently returned from overseas, making the trip in a Lancaster bomber. He en- listed in London with the Hussars in August 1941, and transferred to RC AF. in Ferbuary 1942. He received his wings in October of that year. [-le went overseas in January 1945. He reports for service in the Pacific after spending 30 days with his wife and young daughter at Grand Bend. Dies at Shipka John Marriott, of Shipka, passed away in Victoria Hospital, London,, In his 62nd year. He was married to Mae Palmer, who survives; also a daughter, Dorothy; three sisters, Mrs H. Wilson of Watford; Mrs. Flem- ing Russel and Mrs. W. 1rork, of Kirkton; two brothers, Aiken of the Bend and Samuel of Victoria, B.C. The body rested at the T. Harry Hoff man Funeral Home in Dashwood from where the funeral was held on Thurs- day with Rev._.T. Trueblood of Ship- ka United Chifrch officiating, inter- ment was made in Grand Bend cem- etery. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stelck, of Dashwood and granddaughter Patsy' Stelck of Bradford were in town one day. The former have recently re- turned from Bradford, where they were accompanied by their son, Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn .Stelck to a trip to New Ontario, in the Thornloe Dist- rict, where they visited with the me- mbers of the Johnston Family form- erly of Blake. There are three bro- thers and a sister of this family and all wish to be remembered to their many friends in this district. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Stelek report a most interesting and enjolyable time on this fine outing. HENSALL RECEPTION llensall Town Hall, lovely with a background of flags, the platform re- presenting a home with welcome sign, was the scene of a reception for the local boys returned homefront overseas. It was sponsored by the Ladies' Five Hundred Club of Hen- sall. The boys who were present were Major Howard Hemphill„ LAC Max Hudson of London, formerly of Hen - 3a11; Cpl. Roy Brock,; FO. Douglas Sangster (repriated prisoner of war) LAC Dave Sangster; Cpl. Lloyd Noakes; Craftsman Harvey McLarn- on; and two guests, FO. Jim Wilson, Toronto; F0, Robert Long, Windsor. The reception was proceeded by a banquet. Rev. R. A. Brook was in the chair for the program which consist- ed of community singing led'by W.I 0. Goodwin, the address of welcome was given by Reeve E. R. bhaddick; vocal solo, W. 0. Goodwin; reading. Miss Eleanor Venner; vilin selection, Miss Greta Lammie ; piano duet, Mrs R. H. Middleton and MVliss Florence Welsh, and other numbers. Dr. A. R. Campbell of Guelph, secretary* of the Canadian Guernsey Club, formerly president of the war service eomniit-' tee of liensali, congratulated the (boys upon their safe return to Canada.
