136 YEARS PROGRESS
Striking confirmation of the rapid
pace of Canada's development is
found in the Bank of Montreal's an-
nual report to its shareholders and
its two million customers. The 1136th
annual financial statement of the
country's senior chartered bank
shows all-time peaks in the most im-
portant departments. Loans have in-
creased now totaling $857,762,561.
These loans are made to Canadians
of every calling - farmers, miners,
fishermen, oil men, lumbermen, ran
chers - to industrial and business en-
terprises and to provincial and mun-
icipal governments, according to the
report just issued by the IocaI B of
M manager, Carl Scott. His report
underlines the fact that the extent
of the bank's participation in finan-
cing the business and personal needs
of its customers is made possible by
the record amount of funds which 13
of M depositors have placed with its
branches from coast to coast.

Progressing Nicely
The new homes under construction
are progressing very well as the past
week was nice and it is surprising
what progress can be made in a
week's time. We cannot help but
make remarks and praise of the fine
business block the Desjardine's have
erected and occupied. A full line of
tractor and auto accessories, an in
fine order, and no nicer place could
be located anywhere for this kind
of occupation. It sure made a big
change to that corner where the old
blacksmith shop served the public for
a few generations, and now it .is ser-
ving the public in another way ad-
apted to modern times. We wish
them a lot of success.
