The Scout's Corner
On Saturday, Oct. 24th a District
Jamboree of Scouts and Cubs was
held at the Agricultural Grounds here
Groups were present from Centralia,
Zurich, Grand Bend, Clinton, God4r-
ich, Seaforth and Brussels. The af-
ternoon began with a parade to :the
music of the Exeter High School
Band. The line of boys with banners
flying gave a lift to all who have
worked so hard with the boys here
for the past year. Back at the Fair
gro,unds Commissioner H. C. Firth
of London, took the salute and the
Band played a Royal Salute while
Scoutmaster Reid hoisted the colors
to officially get the rally under way.
Competition was keen during the
whole afternoon.. Our Cub Pack won
second honours, being outdone by the
Minton Pack. In the General Com-
petition the Zurich Scouts did ex-
oeedingly well, but, because they
were short-handed, had to withdraw
from two events. However, they
received hearty congratulations from
the visiting .Scouters for their pro-
gress in one short year. Because of
the cold, the Cubs were moved into
the arena for lunch and 'their closing
They were served hot cocoa made by
the lad, ies. The Scouts did their own
cooking in the open air and the num-
erous campfires made a cheerful pic-
ture in the evening dusk.
'The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Scout
Group served supper for Scout Offic-
ials in the basement of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church. Many complim-
ents were voiced for the lovely set-up
and delicious meal.
Festivities closed with a urge
Camp fire and sing -song; and their
homes happy to dream of another
session next year and ideas to make
it better than ever..
The Seouts, Cuba and Leaders wisii
to express sincere appreciation to all
who helped in any way to • maim

HONORED WITH MEDAL
Mr. Ed. Wurm of Markham was a
'eek -end visitor in Zurich., :staying
with his sister, Mrs. Emily Fuss, also
calling on his brother Mr. Jacob
Wurm of Seaforth. Mr. Warren re-
cently had a very pleasant surprise
when he received recognition from
the Royal Canadian Mail for his SI
years of continuous service. We quote
the f oil owin g clippings : Markham
Economist and News: Mr. Ed Wurm
wee a surprised man this week when
he received a parcel containing a
letter bearing the Royal Crest, noti-
fying him that enclosed in the par -
eel was a medal, made to mark that
the recent coronation of the Queen,
Mr. 'Wurna was invited to wear the
medal, which is attached to a ribbon.
The letter contained no further in-
formation. Mr. Wurm guessed that
he had been thus honored on account
of his lengthy service with the Royal
Mail -31 years. Up to the' present
we have not heard of otheks receiv-
ing a similar medal.—Oct, :02, 1953.
And from the iStouffville Tribute
of Oct. 22, the following:',..:
Veteran Mail Carrier Receives Medal
On Tuesday, Mr. Ed. Wurm well
known Markham mail carrier received
1 a silver -medal and ribbon and mess-
age of zongratulations from Eel
IVIajesty, Queen Elizabeth. The a --
ward in ebIernatic of his many years
of service. Mr. 'Worm has handled
the express and mail in Markham for
- -- the past thirty years.
