A Memorial Church The Ehnes Memorial Church We are in receipt of a copy of "World Outlook" of June 1952, published by The Methodist Publish- ing House of America. in the issue is the picture of the new Ehnes Mem- orial ,Methodist Church at Old Umtali, Southern Rhodesia, which is the most worshipful Methodist church in Africa. It is named after tae late Dr. Morris W. Ehnes, pioneer mis- 1 sionary, who was a son of the late 1Mr and Mrs August Ehne, of Zurich. 1 Dr. Ehnes and his wife arrived on October 15th 1898 at this place in dark Africa and started a mission, and 25 years later it was this same !man who was elected to the position of Treasurer of the Board of For- ign missions of the Methodist Epis- copal church with headinarters in New York City. Dr, • Ehnes thus served his church in two very s gni••- ficant roles, as pioneer and rounder of the ;Methodist missionary work in Southern Rhodesia and in the resp- onsible work as treasurer in the U. S.A. Moat Protestant churches in Africa are ve,-y sim le ar l prlmat-' ive, but the Ehnes Memorial cnurch with its modern ar•:b,ta^tune, it is outstanding, anti compares well with American or Eueopenn churches. Those of us who personally knew 1)r. Ehnes, and the fine christian char- acter he possessed, are very sappy indeed to learn that so fine a church has been erected in his memory in that far away Africa, «hese he and his iconmpanion eacaficed so much for the cause of Christianity, and We hope that his work shall continue and grow ethee p sses.c on slid brings with itmany i --games,: but the last two welch , 40e—tale were ;wall .by New. York has• now won the title for the fourth time in a row. On Sunday afternoon some' seventy thousand ball fans jammed the Yankee staaium and a considerable amount of cash money • exchanged hands in betting as well as admission to the park. AGED LADY PASSES .As we go to press we' learn of the passing. of a well known aged lady in 'Zurich in the person of Mrs.Eliz- abeth Elsie, beloved wife of jhe late Henry .Thiel, who passed away in Zurich, on Wednesday October 8th. Ir her 88th year. The remains are resting at the .Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich, until Saturday, Octo- ber 11th, where a private funeral service will be held at 121 p.m. Inter- ment in the Ev. St. •IPeter's Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. E. W. Heimrrch will Officiate. • New Homes Making Progress The various new homes under con- struction are progressing along with leaps and bounds and workmen . are busy doing their bit to hurry things along .before the snow begins re fly. Some time ago there seemed very little activity in building going on in town this summer, but now we are informed by someone who • should know, there are seven new homes un- der construction at the present time. We hope the weatherman will be a bit: sympathetic with these ambitious people starting to build a home in he middle of October. But it v: ill be a geed feeling if one can huddle in their own four corners when the colder days will come an:l the raw winds whistle around the corners. 1 Single Copiea 5 Cent& Sulbseripton in Canada 'Tear $2.1116 Subscription U.S.A., Year $2.ra14 N O R M A '' S BEAUTY SHOPPE FOR APPOINTMENTS Tel. 128.
