BLAKE :Former Teacher Honored Had Reunion Surerus Reunion I Saturday afternoon, June Xyl, some 1(i3 7n++tnbeve of the Surerus rerati- vesi gathered in the beautiful Victoria 1'alb at Stratford Dss'hwocsd, Zur- ich and Exeter were well represent- ed there. Prof. Alvin Sureties, a !former Zurich •boy and for years a 'teacher in one of Toronto's Advanc- ed Educational Centres, sketched the history of the ancestors for sonic 400 !year!yeare. Ile traced their sojourn in Spain, France and -Germany, t eir i4mnigtation to the U.S.A.; 'then' move to Canada, a'fteiset11e American War of Independence; then again, the move to Michigan, N, Dakota and Kansas around 1875. 'The mast vis- itors the year came from Detroit, Mich, The oldest was Mrs..femnna Walper from Zurich. After a rrounc- ifu1 dinner shortly after 12 noon, a program followed consisting of un address of welcome; a leap year u reacllnr, a lnumirnrous letter written by a participant in the late war, hav- ing 'served as far away as Australia, :the address referred above. The sports committee under the le'ader- ; Ship of Leonard Savants of Zurich, carried .out an exciting program of entertainment. The minion is to be held 'a.gain about the same time, the place to he decided hater. HOLD REUNION The Vincent re-unio n was held in Jowett's Grove, Bayfield rote .June 14 with an attendance of !about Sixty being present. A. church..convention in session at the same. time prevented the Michigan xneanbers s'f tite elan of axes? "Don't be silly," you are likely -to retort. But the question is not a foolish one. POT if you keep asking the goveniment to do things for ou then you are automatically asking for higher taxes. Government itself creates and possesses nothing. All it can do is to take something from the citizens and hand it back to thein—less. a handing :charge to pay the wages of government emp'oyees and east of distribution. Taxes are .the means by which this trans- ler is made possible. Higher wages without higher produetion per man means higher prices. If welfare transfer payments are raised because of rising prices then taxes must go up, too. Thus higher prices now mean higher taxes, Keep these facts in mind when you read about new State welfare prol,o9ale, or about new wage demands that are not accompanied by a surance of higher per -man production. • AID • 9 Published as a Public Service by FHE STEEL 'COMPANY OF CANADA, LIMITEID Plants at HAMILTON - BRANTFORD - SWANSEA - CANANOQUE - MONTREAL eben tures and Certifleteed tes ,from,. 3 to 10 year.) e Interest payable half yearly e .100 or more accepted CA1'Ai.
